BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's basketball team fell in its final home contest of the season, 60-38, Wednesday afternoon to Lock Haven.Â
Despite struggling from the floor,
Katie Starr (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) led the Huskies with nine points while filling the stat sheet elsewhere. The forward also finished with team-highs in rebounds (9), steals (3) and blocks (2).
Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) finished second on the team with seven points while adding three boards.
Ella Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) contributed six points while tacking on five assists, bringing her season total to nine games with at least five.
Bloomsburg (8-19, 6-15 PSAC) falls out of postseason contention with the defeat. The Bald Eagles (25-2, 20-1 PSAC) improve their standing as the No. 1 seed in the East heading into the conference tournament.
How It Happened:Â
Both sides got off to slow starts, with the first points not coming until two minutes in with a fast-break layup from Stevenson. Lock Haven grabbed its lead after an 8-0 run and would not surrender the edge for the rest of the contest. The Huskies would bring the game within two in the first quarter off four consecutive points from Starr before the Bald Eagles secured a 13-8 advantage after a quarter of action.
After exchanging jumpers to start the second quarter, Lock Haven used another 8-0 stretch to take their lead into double figures. E. Kale and
Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) would score the next six points of the game to halt the scoring draught for Bloomsburg with under three minutes left in the half and bring the game within single digits. The Huskies would the second quarter trailing 29-17.Â
The first two and a half minutes of the second half would see both teams register four points. Another 8-0 spurt by the Bald Eagles would see the visitors go up 43-21 halfway through the third. Stevenson hit her lone triple of the game to get the deficit below 20 points. Lock Haven would take a 50-27 edge into the final quarter.
Bloomsburg managed to muster some early offense by aggressively attacking the rim.
Lauren Kirsch (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin) would knock down the Huskies' first basket of the quarter with her first three of the game. Another two minutes would go off the clock before both sides knocked down free throws to find a way back on the scoreboard. The teams would combine for one point in the final 3:54 of the contest.Â

The Huskies play their final game of the season on Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. against West Chester.
