Men's Basketball Falls in Wire-to-Wire Matchup with Shippensburg

Dressler and Wild combine for 44 points

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team fell in a wire-to-wire Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest with Shippensburg, 88-83, inside Heiges Field House on Saturday afternoon.
 
Bloomsburg (4-17, 2-13 PSAC) and Shippensburg (7-14, 3-12) scored early and often as the teams' traded a one-possession lead in the opening six minutes.
 
The Raiders amassed a 13-point lead late in the half, before Louie Wild (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic) and Desmond Freeman (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford) pulled the Huskies back within two possessions, trailing 42-34 at halftime.
 
The maroon and gold found themselves down 70-59 with 8:43 to play in the contest and rallied a 10-0 run over the next 100 seconds to put Shippensburg on its heels. Bloomsburg continued to apply pressure on SU and kept within six points of the Shippensburg lead before ultimately falling, 88-83.
 
Wild finished as the game's leading scorer, posting a season-high 25 points. He went 8-of-17 from the floor while nailing 8-of-9 free throw attempts. The Philadelphia native matched his career-high in assists with eight.
 
Jagger Dressler (Danville, Pa./Danville) eclipsed a number of career-highs in the game, recording 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Dressler's five three-pointers matches the team's season-high hit by Wild against Holy Family.
 
Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) went 5-of-11 from the floor for 11 points, while Freeman finished with nine. Kyle Saglimben (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Mondyu Richards (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) each shot 3-of-5 to finish with seven and six points, respectively.
 
The Huskies shot a 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the floor, matching their best shooting percentage on the road this season. Bloomsburg shot 50 percent (17-of-34) in the second half, including 7-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc in the frame. The maroon and gold posted its best free-throw performance of the year, going 11-for-12 from the line.
 
Bloomsburg returns to action on Wednesday, February 7 for a 5:30 p.m. contest with Mansfield.
