Black Uniform Story Release

Football | 4/10/2024 1:30:00 PM

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg football team unveiled brand new alternate uniforms ahead of the 2024 season, Wednesday. The new all-black set was generously made possible by a gift from Steph Pettit '89 and consists of black jerseys, pants, a new matte black helmet, and full accessories.

"On behalf of the Husky football team and staff I would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for Steph and Allie's continued support and commitment to our program," remarked head coach Frank Sheptock '86. "We look forward to debuting the new uniforms in the fall."

The black jerseys featured a cameo print and grayed-out logos while the pants are all black with silver accents. The helmets are black matte with a silver decal. The all-black uniforms will debut on Thursday, September 5 when the Huskies take the field against Fairmont State to open the season. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.

"To see the Huskies run onto the field in the home opener against Fairmont State, at night, sporting these new all-black uniforms is going to be epic," Pettit said about his recent donation. "The new UnderArmour jerseys and pants align with the program's hard-working nature and I am so pleased to be able to support the program and offer the student-athletes these first-class uniforms."

The Husky football team now sports three uniform sets – an all-maroon set with gold numbers and maroon helmets, primarily worn at home at Redman Stadium, an all-white uniform with maroon helmets and maroon numbers and accents for road games, and now the all-black set with white numbers and black helmets to be used as an alternate option. This gift created additional opportunities for other Husky athletic programs to benefit as well.

"It is an understatement to say how appreciative we are here at Bloomsburg for the generous donation and continued support of Steph Pettit," said senior vice president and provost Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson. "Steph and his family's commitment to Bloomsburg and helping the athletic teams compete at their highest level is extremely commendable."

"Steph, Allie, and the Pettit family continue to elevate the Bloomsburg athletics brand through their generosity and support," remarked Dr. Michael McFarland, director of athletics. "These new uniforms are just another example of the Pettit family's commitment to Bloomsburg athletics and will look great under the lights when the Huskies take the field for the first time."

The Huskies wrap up spring practice on Friday, April 12 with the annual Maroon & Gold game, which is free and open to the public at 6:00 p.m. Bloomsburg opens the 2024 season on Thursday, September 5, 2024, against Fairmont State at 6:00 p.m. at Redman Stadium.
