STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team dropped its doubleheader against No. 15 East Stroudsburg Friday afternoon.
The Huskies struggled to muster much offensively throughout the day, scoring one run across two contests against the top-seeded team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.
The Huskies fall to 29-20 with one regular-season series left to play with a 16-14 record in conference play. The Warriors improve to 40-12 overall with a 22-8 mark in conference action.
Game One:Â
East Stroudsburg scored the first run of the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the second to grab the momentum of game one.
Bloomsburg had its first scoring opportunity of the contest with runners on the corners and one out in the top of the third. Despite the circumstances, the Huskies would record two outs on the next two batters to remain scoreless with the game at 1-0.Â
The Warriors added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs to extend its advantage to four and keep the Huskies at arm's length from making a comeback effort.Â
Bloomsburg looked to rally in the fifth, managing to find its way onto the scoreboard.
Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) doubled with one out in the inning to give the Huskies a runner in scoring position before a
Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) single gave Bloomsburg runners on the corners again. After a pitching change,
Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) singled with two outs to cut the deficit to three before the Huskies' scoring efforts were halted with the next at-bat.Â
East Stroudsburg tacked on three more runs through its final two innings at the plate to take game one by a score of 7-1.
Game Two:Â
Bloomsburg looked to respond following the defeat in game one and attempted to spark a run in the first.
Culp led off the game with a single before being bunted over to give the Huskies a runner in scoring position. After
Kayleigh Lenner (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) drew a one-out walk, Bloomsburg threatened to get an early run but could not despite having two outs to play with.Â
Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) kept the Huskies in game two through the early goings, providing three shutout innings of work from the bump. Bloomsburg had another runner in scoring position in the top of the third but could not convert in the situation with two outs.
The Warriors struck first once again, this time using a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to grab a 1-0 advantage.Â
The Huskies once again threatened to rally this time coming into the top of the fifth. Bloomsburg loaded the bases following two singles and a walk with a chance to strike facing two outs. The Huskies could not find a gap, still trailing by one heading into the bottom of the inning.Â
Another three-run spurt by East Stroudsburg, this time coming in the bottom of the fifth provided the necessary insurance to come away with the sweep.Â
On the Horizon:Â
The Huskies take on Millersville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 in a pivotal series to decide the final two East playoff teams.
