QUAKERTOWN, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team fell out of contention for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Softball Championship crown with an 8-0 defeat to Seton Hill Thursday afternoon.Â
Playing their fourth game in two days, the Huskies ran out of gas against a high-powered offense for the Griffins.
The Bloomsburg softball team sits at 33-22 on the season. Seton Hill improves to 36-16 overall with an elimination game against Shippensburg later Thursday afternoon.
How It Happened:
The Huskies had the first scoring chance of the afternoon in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs,
Josie Straigis (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and
Emmie Rowe (Hetlerville, Pa./Central Columbia) recorded back singles to put two runners on base. A sharply hit ball in the field that could not find a gap in the ensuing at-bat, allowing Seton Hill to escape the inning.
The Griffins landed the first blow of the game with a two-out rally in the bottom half of the second frame. With runners on second and third, a hard-hit ball up the middle of the infield allowed both runners to score and give Seton Hill a 2-0 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, both sides took their chances in the fourth inning.
Bloomsburg had the first go, again getting runners on first and second, following singles from
Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) and Straigis, this time looking at one out. The Huskies could not build upon the back-to-back singles, missing an opportunity to cut the two-run deficit.
The Griffins again were able to capitalize on their opportunities, using a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to double their advantage to four.
Seton Hill wrapped up the game with a four-run fifth inning to end Bloomsburg's hopes of bringing a PSAC title home.
On The Horizon:
The Huskies await final seeding and allocation for the NCAA Championship field with the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 6, at 10:00 a.m.
