Â
Lock Haven (2-7, 0-1 PSAC East) used an enthusiastic crowd to garner early momentum in the opening set, picking up a pair of kills and an ace in a four-point run to begin the game. After getting on the board from a Lock Haven ball-handling error, Johnson recorded the first kill for Bloomsburg (3-10, 1-0). The teams traded points back-and-forth with the Bald Eagles keeping the Huskies at bay in the early goings.
Â
The Huskies took their first lead of the match halfway through the set, by posting four-straight points. After Lock Haven evened the score, the maroon and gold went on a 5-1 run to take a 19-15 advantage. The Bald Eagles responded with a 5-1 run of their own to knot the score at 20 apiece. Bloomsburg capitalized on attack errors from the opposition to close out the first set, 25-23.
Â
Momentum carried over with the Huskies into the second set, jumping to an early 4-0 lead. A 6-2 run from the hosts brought the game back to a deadlock, before trading points throughout much of the second set. Lock Haven continued to claw back against the maroon and gold, not allowing Bloomsburg to take more than a three-point lead. After the Bald Eagles finally managed to take a 21-20 lead,
Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) posted back-to-back kills to regain the advantage. Lock Haven went on a 5-2 run to win the second set, 26-24, and even the game at one set win each.
Â
The third set started with a closely contested exchange, with the Bald Eagles advancing the score to 10-8 to take the first multi-point lead of the set. A 4-2 run for Lock Haven advanced the score to 14-11. From there it was all Bloomsburg, who went on a nine-point swing to go up 20-14. The run saw kills from three different Huskies, including Kuehl who had three in the sequence. A kill from Lock Haven put a temporary hold to Bloomsburg's momentum, before the maroon and gold closed out the set with five straight points.
Â
Bloomsburg picked up right where it left off to start the fourth set, as Johnson notched three kills in an early 5-2 run. Lock Haven countered to take over the momentum and the lead, 8-7. The Huskies regained the lead in a 9-5 scoring stretch that saw the maroon and gold score eight points on errors from the Bald Eagles. A 7-3 run with kills from Kuehl, Gustie and
Lydia Worthing (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood Antis) propelled Bloomsburg even further into the lead. After two points from Lock Haven, Johnson ended the game with back-to-back kills.
Â
The win advances the Huskies all-time record against Lock Haven to 7-4.
