Adelman Sets Program Assist Record as Volleyball Downs Lock Haven, 3-1

Elise Adelman's 1,285 assists is now the most in program history.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team opened Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play in the win column, defeating Lock Haven, 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-15. 25-18), inside an energized Thomas Field House on Friday night.

Elise Adelman (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) made history by breaking the program record for career assists (1285), surpassing Bryn Stek's 1,280-mark. Adelman recorded 35 assists in the contest while posting a season-high seven kills.

Three separate Huskies finished in the double-digits in kills, with Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring) leading the way with 14. Emily Gustie (Crofton, Md./Crofton) and Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) each tallied ten kills in the game. Kuehl posted a .318 hitting percentage, recording just three errors in the contest. Gustie amassed 13 digs while notching a pair of aces.

Lock Haven (2-7, 0-1 PSAC East) used an enthusiastic crowd to garner early momentum in the opening set, picking up a pair of kills and an ace in a four-point run to begin the game. After getting on the board from a Lock Haven ball-handling error, Johnson recorded the first kill for Bloomsburg (3-10, 1-0). The teams traded points back-and-forth with the Bald Eagles keeping the Huskies at bay in the early goings.

The Huskies took their first lead of the match halfway through the set, by posting four-straight points. After Lock Haven evened the score, the maroon and gold went on a 5-1 run to take a 19-15 advantage. The Bald Eagles responded with a 5-1 run of their own to knot the score at 20 apiece. Bloomsburg capitalized on attack errors from the opposition to close out the first set, 25-23.

Momentum carried over with the Huskies into the second set, jumping to an early 4-0 lead. A 6-2 run from the hosts brought the game back to a deadlock, before trading points throughout much of the second set. Lock Haven continued to claw back against the maroon and gold, not allowing Bloomsburg to take more than a three-point lead. After the Bald Eagles finally managed to take a 21-20 lead, Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) posted back-to-back kills to regain the advantage. Lock Haven went on a 5-2 run to win the second set, 26-24, and even the game at one set win each.

The third set started with a closely contested exchange, with the Bald Eagles advancing the score to 10-8 to take the first multi-point lead of the set. A 4-2 run for Lock Haven advanced the score to 14-11. From there it was all Bloomsburg, who went on a nine-point swing to go up 20-14. The run saw kills from three different Huskies, including Kuehl who had three in the sequence. A kill from Lock Haven put a temporary hold to Bloomsburg's momentum, before the maroon and gold closed out the set with five straight points.

Bloomsburg picked up right where it left off to start the fourth set, as Johnson notched three kills in an early 5-2 run. Lock Haven countered to take over the momentum and the lead, 8-7. The Huskies regained the lead in a 9-5 scoring stretch that saw the maroon and gold score eight points on errors from the Bald Eagles. A 7-3 run with kills from Kuehl, Gustie and Lydia Worthing (Tyrone, Pa./Bellwood Antis) propelled Bloomsburg even further into the lead. After two points from Lock Haven, Johnson ended the game with back-to-back kills.

The win advances the Huskies all-time record against Lock Haven to 7-4.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, October 4 for its home opener against Millersville at 6 p.m.
