THE GAME
The Bloomsburg Huskies look to regroup and snap a four-game skid as they hit the road for a PSAC East showdown at Millersville. The Huskies (1-6, 0-4 PSAC East) are coming off a 37-13 loss to Shepherd last weekend at Steph Pettit Stadium. Despite the setback, Bloomsburg posted over 300 yards of total offense for the fifth time this season and continued to showcase balance behind quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and wide receiver Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy).

Millersville (0-7, 0-4 PSAC East) returns home after a 43-14 loss at #4 Kutztown and will look for its first win of the season. The Huskies run game will look to take advantage of a Millersville defense that allows 182.1 yards per game and and the pass game will hope to capitalize on a defense that allows 366.6 yards per game.

Saturday's contest marks another opportunity for the Huskies to build on their offensive consistency and defensive toughness as the regular season enters its final month.

THE SERIES
Bloomsburg and Millersville meet for the 88th time in one of the PSAC's oldest rivalries. The Huskies lead the all-time series 51–31–5 and have won 24 of the last 25 meetings.

Last season, Bloomsburg celebrated Senior Day with a 35–27 win at Redman Stadium, highlighted by a career-best 209 receiving yards and two touchdowns from Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy). The Huskies forced two turnovers and scored in every quarter to improve to 6-4 during the 2024 campaign.

Millersville last defeated Bloomsburg in 2021, a 21–17 decision at home. Games between the two programs have historically been hard-fought, defensive battles decided by field position and turnovers—an area both teams will look to control again this week at Chryst Field.

SCOUTING MILLERSVILLE
OFFENSIVE OUTLOOK
Millersville's offense has shown flashes behind sophomore quarterback Ryan Zeltt, who has thrown for 1,267 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 211.2 yards per game on 56% passing . Backup Tommy Hunsicker has added 345 yards and two scores in five appearances.

No. 8 Huskies Run Over No. 7 West Chester, 41-10
There was no shortage of reasons for the eighth-ranked Bloomsburg University football team to be excited for Saturday's matchup with No. 7 West Chester - it marked the first Huskies game between a pair of top 10 teams in eight years, was a re-match of last year's NCAA Playoff game and represented a battle for first place in the PSAC East.

The Huskies (8-0, 7-0 PSAC) roared to a dominating start and never looked back in a convincing 41-10 win in front of a raucous crowd of 7,328 at Redman Stadium.

Bloomsburg's running attack plowed through the West Chester defense, racking up 454 rushing yards on the way to 553 total yards of offense. Senior running back Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) had one of the best statistical days in school history with 269 yards and four touchdowns on the ground with Dai'Shon Munger (Westampton, NJ/Holy Cross) adding 143 rushing yards.

But it was again the defense that was perhaps most impressive as the Huskies stifled one of the top offenses in the nation. Sophomore safety Jerrin Toomey (York/West York) intercepted West Chester quarterback Sean McCartney three times – equaling the total the sixth-year signal caller had thrown all season in 230 attempts entering the day. In all, the Bloomsburg defense came away with six takeaways to add to the nation's best turnover margin.

QUICK RECAP – 2024 HUSKIES
The Huskies exceeded all expectations by the league's coaches and finished the 2024 season 6-5 and 4-3 in PSAC East action. After being picked to finish last in the East, the Huskies finished third in the conference. Bloomsburg opened the season with a dominant 35-7 win over Fairmont State at home before dropping a heartbreaker to Seton Hill, 15-14, on a last-second touchdown. The Huskies responded with a 32-27 comeback win over Edinboro and went on to defeat West Chester 23-21 at home to finish out the month of September. After three-straight losses to Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, and Lock Haven, Bloomsburg righted ship with a 20-10 win over Shippensburg University to end October. The Huskies went down to Shepherd and came home with a 27-21 double overtime win over the Rams before defeating Millersville 35-27 on Senior Day. The Huskies ended the year with a 27-7 loss to Slippery Rock on the road.

QUICK RECAP – 2024 MARAUDERS
Millersville finished the 2024 season with a 1-10 overall record and a 0-7 mark in PSAC East play. The Marauders opened the year on August 29 with a 7-36 home loss versus Clarion Golden Eagles. They dropped their next two non-conference games at Frostburg State Bobcats (6-23) and vs. Indiana (PA) Crimson Hawks (14-42). Millersville's sole victory came on November 16 at Edinboro Fighting Scots, a 23-21 road win. The Marauders closed the season with back-to-back road losses at Bloomsburg (27-35) and Edinboro the previous week.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
For the first time since his tenure began in 2019, head coach Frank Sheptock went into spring ball and then the regular season with the same coaching staff in 2025. Coach Sheptock added depth to the staff with several student and volunteer assistants, but his coordinators and main position group coaches remained the same. Tim Landis is back for year two as offensive coordinator and the quarterbacks coach. Chris Sprague continues to coach the offensive lines and tight ends. Zach Martin is back at the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach while Johnathan Pruden returns to coach the secondary. Greg Kahn is leading the defensive line once again and Tony Ianerio oversees the running backs and specialists. Josh Bernocco is in his second season as the special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. Coach Sheptock added Chase Higgins, Peyton Persing, Loughlin Smith, and Nick Troutman as volunteer and student assistant coaches.

KEY LOSSES
The Huskies have several key positions to fill for the 2025 season. Bloomsburg will be without three key All-PSAC East athletes on defense with the departure of Ryan D'Ambra (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Giovanni Cancro (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township), and Charles Crews III (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area). The Huskies also lose two of their top receivers to graduation as Owen Anderson (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and Matthew Bowes (Somerton, Pa./La Salle College HS) finished their careers in 2024.

RETURNING ALL-PSAC ATHLETES
Bloomsburg returns All-PSAC East wideout Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) for his senior season. Griffen-Batchler earned his first All-Conference honor as he was named a PSAC East First Team wide receiver. Griffen-Batchler put together a career year with 48 receptions for 854 yards. He averaged 4.36 catches per game and 17.79 yards per catch. Griffen-Batchler had eight receiving touchdowns and averaged 77.64 yards per game. He had four games with two touchdown catches and three games of 100+ receiving yards. Griffen-Batchler posted six catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the Huskies' 35-27 win over Millersville on six catches. His 209 receiving yards were the most by a Husky since 2003. 68 yards came on one touchdown catch for the junior. Griffen-Batchler also returned kickoffs and punts for the Huskies. He had 11 punt returns for 88 yards and had 324 kickoff return yards on the year. Griffen-Batchler had a conference-best 254 all-purpose yards in the Huskies' win over Millersville. For the year, Griffen-Batchler posted 1,259 all-purpose yards and averaged 114.45 yards per game. He finished second in the conference in receiving touchdowns and fifth in receiving yards and yards per game.

LOCKER ROOM TALK
Head coach Frank Sheptock continues to emphasize focus and fast starts, and the Huskies have responded with efficient scoring bursts throughout games this season. Through seven contests, Bloomsburg has scored 23 points in the first quarter, 55 in the second, 35 in the third, and 55 in the fourth, consistently finding rhythm late in halves.

The Huskies' most productive periods have come in the second and fourth quarters, where they've scored a combined 110 points, accounting for over 60% of their total offense this season. Their ability to close halves strong has kept them within striking distance in five of seven games.

Against East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns to nearly complete a comeback, and in the season opener at Fairmont State, the Huskies outscored the Falcons 15–10 in the second half. Even in last week's matchup against Shepherd, Bloomsburg sustained long second-half drives and continued to find balance offensively.

OFFENSIVE NOTES
PROTECTING THE QB
Bloomsburg's offensive line remains one of the most dependable units in the PSAC East, keeping senior quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) upright and productive all season. The Huskies have allowed just seven sacks for 43 yards through seven games—ranking among the league's top teams in fewest sacks allowed.

The veteran front five, led by offensive line coach Chris Sprague, has given Riley the time needed to operate a balanced offense that averages 356.1 yards per game, including 207.7 through the air. That protection has powered standout performances such as Riley's 264-yard outing at Fairmont State and his four-touchdown day at East Stroudsburg.

PLAYING A CLEAN GAME
Discipline continues to be a hallmark of Bloomsburg football. After leading the PSAC in fewest penalties a year ago, the Huskies remain among the most disciplined teams in 2025. Through seven games, Bloomsburg has committed 35 penalties for 275 yards, an average of just 39.3 yards per game, while opponents have been flagged 42 times for 350 yards.

The Huskies' ability to play clean football has extended drives, limited costly mistakes, and contributed to one of the PSAC's most efficient fourth-down offenses.

ALL-PURPOSE JGB
Senior wide receiver Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) continues to be one of Division II's premier all-purpose threats. He leads the PSAC East with 142.6 all-purpose yards per game, totaling 494 receiving yards, 232 kickoff return yards, and 58 punt return yards through seven games.

Griffen-Batchler is averaging 18.3 yards per reception and has seven receiving touchdowns, including multi-score games at Edinboro and East Stroudsburg. He remains a constant big-play threat in the passing and return game and now ranks seventh in Bloomsburg history with 2,064 career receiving yards.

LOTS OF OPTIONS
Quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) continues to spread the ball around effectively, connecting with 10 different receivers this season.

Gabe Brower (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley): 26 catches, 376 yards, 5 TDs
Justin Wolfe (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area): 27 catches, 240 yards, 1 TD
Paul Wojciechowski (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan): 9 catches, 121 yards, 1 TD
Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy): 27 catches, 494 yards, 7 TDs

The Huskies are averaging 207.7 passing yards per game, their highest mark since 2019. Riley's balance and ability to find multiple playmakers have kept Bloomsburg's offense unpredictable and efficient.

THE RILEY FILE
Senior quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) remains the focal point of Bloomsburg's offense, excelling as both a passer and a rusher. He has completed 104-of-179 passes (58.1%) for 1,454 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 316 rushing yards and four scores. Riley ranks fifth in the PSAC East in total offense (252.9 yards per game) and now sits fifth all-time at Bloomsburg with 5,777 career passing yards.

Riley's 19 total touchdowns (15 passing, 4 rushing) are the most by a Bloomsburg quarterback since 2018, and he has accounted for over 1,770 total yards of offense through seven games.

MOVING FORWARD
The Huskies' rushing attack continues to provide balance to the offense.

•                 Declan Clancy (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township): 99 carries, 412 yards (4.2 avg), 1 TD
•                 Eli Zimmerman (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh): 54 carries, 171 yards, 4 TDs
•                 KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area): 316 yards, 4 rushing TDs
•                 Gabe Brower (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley): 13 carries, 123 yards (9.5 avg), 1 TD

Bloomsburg has totaled 1,039 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 148.4 yards per game—a consistent complement to the passing game. The Huskies' ability to sustain drives on the ground has resulted in an 86% fourth-down conversion rate (12-of-14), the best in the PSAC.

CAREER MILESTONES
•                 KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) surpassed 5,777 career passing yards, moving into fifth place on Bloomsburg's all-time list and approaching the 6,000-yard mark.
•                 Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) now has 2,064 career receiving yards, seventh all-time, and is within 63 yards of tying for sixth.

Both standouts continue to climb the Huskies' historical leaderboards as two of the most productive offensive players of the Sheptock era.

DEFENSIVE NOTES
LBU
Bloomsburg's linebacker corps continues to anchor the defense, combining for more than one-third of the team's tackles this season. The Huskies have produced 461 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks through seven games.

Izzy Dobbins (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) leads the team with 53 tackles (3 TFL, 1 sack), followed by Brady Thompson (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) (48 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack) and Garrett Garcia (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) (36 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks). •                 Thompson: 48 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack
•                 Garcia: 36 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks

Their combined 137 stops account for nearly 30% of the team's total tackles this season.

EDGE PRESSURE AND PLAYMAKING
Nahzier Booker (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) leads a productive defensive front with 5.5 tackles for loss (25 yards), one sack, and one forced fumble, consistently drawing extra attention from opposing linemen. McKenzie Hazzard (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Ryan Corros (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley) have combined for four sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss, giving Bloomsburg quality depth up front.

The Huskies' defensive line has helped hold opponents to just 4.2 yards per carry, limiting big plays and keeping offenses off schedule.

SECONDARY STRENGTH
The secondary has quietly developed into one of the PSAC East's most improved units.

•                 Idriz Ahmetovic (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford): 43 tackles, 2 PBU
•                 Zhamir Rowan (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia): 1 INT (21-yard return), 2 PBU

The group has held opponents to 221.0 passing yards per game and limited red-zone passing scores throughout the season.

With leadership from Dobbins, Thompson, and Garcia in the middle—and emerging depth up front and in the secondary—the unit continues to carry the "LBU" torch with pride and production.

Sheptock was at Division III Wilkes University as the defensive coordinator from 1990-95 and then took over the Colonels' program and served as head coach from 1996-2014. While at Wilkes, Sheptock went 107-81 overall and established the program record for most wins in a season (11) and career (107) while leading the Colonels to nine postseason appearances.
