THE GAME
The Bloomsburg Huskies look to build momentum after a strong 37–21 victory at Millersville as they return home for a PSAC East showdown with West Chester.
Bloomsburg (2–6, 1–4 PSAC East) snapped its four-game skid last weekend behind a season-high 511 yards of total offense, including 296 passing and 215 rushing yards. Quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) accounted for four total touchdowns, while wideouts Gabe Brower (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) and Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) each went over 100 receiving yards to lead the attack.

West Chester (3–5, 2–3 PSAC East) enters following a 41-7 loss to Kutztown but remains one of the PSAC's most explosive offenses, averaging over 340 yards per game. Saturday's matchup is the Golden Rams' Military/First Responders Appreciation Day.

THE SERIES
Bloomsburg and West Chester will meet for the 84th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1925. The Golden Rams lead the all-time series 53–30, but the Huskies have won two of the last three meetings.

Last season, Bloomsburg came back to defeat the Golden Rams' on a touchdown grab by Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) with 26 seconds left to play in regulation.

SCOUTING WEST CHESTER
OFFENSIVE OUTLOOK
West Chester brings a balanced but inconsistent offense averaging 349.4 yards per game — 148.8 on the ground and 200.6 through the air. The Golden Rams rely on dual-threat quarterback Cooper Jordan, who has been the spark when healthy. Jordan has accounted for 1,336 total yards (921 passing, 415 rushing) and 14 total touchdowns (9 passing, 5 rushing) across five appearances.

When Jordan is unavailable, Colin O'Sullivan provides capable depth, completing 59-of-94 passes (62.8%) for 581 yards and four scores in three starts. Freshman Ethan Kohler has also seen limited reps under center.

The Rams' ground attack is deep and committee-driven. Jordan and Khalil Owens (287 yds, 3 TD) lead a unit averaging nearly 150 rushing yards per game. Ali Barkley (127 yds, TD) and Juke Peaker (142 yds) provide power and rotation depth behind a line that's allowed 18 sacks through eight games.

Through the air, Matthew Iuvara is West Chester's top receiving threat with 31 receptions for 528 yards and six touchdowns — one of the PSAC's most efficient deep threats at 17.0 yards per catch. Supporting him are Ivan Thorpe (272 yds, TD), Thatcher Miller (132 yds, 3 TD), and Robby Longo (170 yds, 2 TD). The Rams average 12.4 yards per reception and have scored 13 passing touchdowns on the season.

DEFENSIVE OUTLOOK
Defensively, West Chester has shown flashes of strength but struggles with consistency and pressure. The Golden Rams allow 318.0 yards and 25.5 points per game, including 150.8 rushing yards and 167.3 passing yards to opponents.

Linebacker Connor Noble leads the team and ranks among PSAC East tackling leaders with 72 total stops (27 solo, 45 assists). He's joined by Johnny Pergine (57 tackles, 5.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks) and Maurice Beverly (33 tackles, INT) in an experienced linebacker group that has combined for 15.5 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks.

Up front, Seamus McCain (23 tackles, 3 sacks) and Ricardo Delgado (17 tackles, 3 sacks) have been effective off the edge, while Debrick Johnson and Anthony Delle Donne add size on the interior. The secondary has been opportunistic, recording 11 interceptions through eight games, led by Jamir Reyes (3) and Kaleb Brown (2). However, the Rams have also given up several explosive plays, allowing opponents to average 11.7 yards per completion and 8.5 yards per pass attempt.

West Chester's defense is disciplined, committing just 55.0 penalty yards per game, and efficient on third down, holding opponents to 34.4% conversions (32-of-93).

SPECIAL TEAMS
Senior kicker Rylan Zuk has provided reliability, converting 6-of-9 field goals (long of 47) and 24-of-25 PATs. Punter Dylan Shank averages 40.9 yards per kick with eight inside the 20 and a long of 52, though the Rams' net average (28.8) ranks among the lower third in the PSAC.

In the return game, Darrell Brown leads the team with 14 kickoff returns for 268 yards (19.1 avg), while Ivan Thorpe and Zack Gillen handle punt return duties — the latter averaging 4.0 yards per return. The Rams' coverage units have allowed two punt return touchdowns this season, an area of concern entering Week 9.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
OFFENSIVE OUTLOOK
Bloomsburg features a balanced offensive attack that averages 375.5 yards per game — 156.8 on the ground and 218.8 through the air. The Huskies' production has surged over the past two weeks, highlighted by a 511-yard, 37-point performance in their win at Millersville.

The offense runs through quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), a dual-threat playmaker who has accounted for 2,109 total yards (1,750 passing, 359 rushing) and 23 total touchdowns (17 passing, 6 rushing) through eight games. Riley is completing 57.9% of his throws and averaging 263.6 yards of total offense per game, ranking among the PSAC East's most dynamic signal-callers.

In the backfield, Declan Clancy (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) anchors the rushing attack with 505 yards (4.4 avg) and two touchdowns. Eli Zimmerman (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) (204 yds, 4 TD) and Gabe Brower (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) (162 yds, TD) provide complementary speed and versatility, contributing to a ground game averaging over 4.2 yards per carry.

Through the air, the Huskies boast one of the league's most productive receiver duos. Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) leads the team with 35 receptions for 593 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging 16.9 yards per catch and 84.7 yards per game. Gabe Brower (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) has been equally impactful, hauling in 32 passes for 503 yards and 6 scores, including a season-long 76-yard touchdown at Millersville. Justin Wolfe (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) adds a reliable underneath option with 29 receptions for 301 yards and 2 TDs.

Bloomsburg's offense converts 48% of third downs and 76% of fourth downs, ranking among the PSAC's most efficient in key situations. Inside the red zone, the Huskies have scored on 87% of their trips (78% touchdowns), showcasing their ability to finish drives.

DEFENSIVE OUTLOOK
Defensively, the Huskies have battled inconsistency but have shown the ability to create pressure and limit opponents in spurts. Bloomsburg allows 371.1 yards and 29.3 points per game, including 143.1 rushing yards and 228.0 passing yards per contest.

Linebackers Izzy Dobbins (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) (59 tackles, 3.0 TFL) and Brady Thompson (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) (57 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks) anchor a defense that has recorded 35 tackles for loss and 15 sacks through eight games. Up front, Nahzier Booker (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) (43 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 3.0 sacks) has been a force off the edge, while Garrett Garcia (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) (36 tackles, 3.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks) adds interior disruption.

In the secondary, Tyler Frey (York, Pa./Central York) (33 tackles, INT) and Zhamir Rowan (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) (21-yard INT return) lead a group that has totaled five interceptions and 29 pass breakups. The defense is at its best when generating turnovers and negative plays — exemplified by the Huskies' three-interception, five-sack performance in the win over Millersville.

While Bloomsburg's red-zone defense has allowed opponents to score on 83% of trips (60% TDs), the unit has improved in recent weeks and is holding foes to 46% on third downs.

SPECIAL TEAMS
The Huskies have found playmaking and stability in the return game. Eli Zimmerman (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) leads the team with 347 kick return yards (26.7 avg, long 41), while Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) adds another 232 yards (17.8 avg) and serves as the primary punt returner, averaging 19.3 yards per return with a long of 31.

The Huskies average 50.4 yards per kickoff, and their coverage units have been steady, allowing just 17.3 yards per opponent return.

Sixth-Ranked Huskies Capture Another PSAC East Crown With 34-13 Win Over ESU
he Bloomsburg University football team entered Saturday's contest against visiting East Stroudsburg needing just one win in its final two conference games of the year to clinch its third PSAC East title in the past five seasons.

Bloomsburg made sure to erase the drama quickly.

The sixth-ranked Huskies (9-0, 8-0 PSAC East) jumped out to an early lead and stifled an ESU offense lacking star quarterback Matt Soltes on the way to a dominating 34-13 victory at cold and windy Redman Stadium, cementing their spot at the top of the East once more.

Bloomsburg followed its typical blueprint for success – Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) ran for three scores and the defense dominated, holding the Warriors (6-3, 5-3) to 140 yards of total offense while forcing four more turnovers to run their season total to 31 turnovers gained.

Tomas Cabrera (Hanover/Hanover Area) celebrated Senior Day with a career-best nine tackles, a forced fumble and an interception. Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) added seven tackles and an interception along with a 41-yard return. Joe Wetty (Downingtown/Downingtown East), McFadden and Ezra Ranco (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) all tallied sacks for the Huskies.

Kelly completed 13 of 29 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown, adding 66 yards rushing. Chad Hoffman (Drums/Hazleton) was Kelly's top receiver with four catches for 36 yards.

Mateo finished with 76 yards on 21 carries with three scores and Dai'Shon Munger (Westampton, NJ/Holy Cross) added 15 carries for 60 yards.

Future Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown runs for 5 touchdowns in Cleveland Browns, 38-31 win over Baltimore Colts at Memorial Stadium.

QUICK RECAP – 2024 HUSKIES
The Huskies exceeded all expectations by the league's coaches and finished the 2024 season 6-5 and 4-3 in PSAC East action. After being picked to finish last in the East, the Huskies finished third in the conference. Bloomsburg opened the season with a dominant 35-7 win over Fairmont State at home before dropping a heartbreaker to Seton Hill, 15-14, on a last-second touchdown. The Huskies responded with a 32-27 comeback win over Edinboro and went on to defeat West Chester 23-21 at home to finish out the month of September. After three-straight losses to Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, and Lock Haven, Bloomsburg righted ship with a 20-10 win over Shippensburg University to end October. The Huskies went down to Shepherd and came home with a 27-21 double overtime win over the Rams before defeating Millersville 35-27 on Senior Day. The Huskies ended the year with a 27-7 loss to Slippery Rock on the road.

QUICK RECAP – 2024 GOLDEN RAMS
West Chester Golden Rams finished the 2024 season with a 4-6 overall record and a 4-3 mark in PSAC East play. The Golden Rams opened the year with a narrow 17-20 home loss to Bentley University Falcons before falling 28-38 at home to California (PA) Vulcans and then 24-27 on the road at Seton Hill Griffins. WCU responded with a 28-10 home win over Shippensburg Raiders and followed that with a 35-14 victory at home against Shepherd Rams. The squad faltered 31-45 at East Stroudsburg Warriors but rebounded with back-to-back conference wins over Millersville Marauders (41-23) and Lock Haven Bald Eagles (27-16). The Golden Rams closed the season with a 13-31 loss on the road at Kutztown Golden Bears.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY
For the first time since his tenure began in 2019, head coach Frank Sheptock went into spring ball and then the regular season with the same coaching staff in 2025. Coach Sheptock added depth to the staff with several student and volunteer assistants, but his coordinators and main position group coaches remained the same. Tim Landis is back for year two as offensive coordinator and the quarterbacks coach. Chris Sprague continues to coach the offensive lines and tight ends. Zach Martin is back at the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach while Johnathan Pruden returns to coach the secondary. Greg Kahn is leading the defensive line once again and Tony Ianerio oversees the running backs and specialists. Josh Bernocco is in his second season as the special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. Coach Sheptock added Chase Higgins, Peyton Persing, Loughlin Smith, and Nick Troutman as volunteer and student assistant coaches.

KEY LOSSES
The Huskies have several key positions to fill for the 2025 season. Bloomsburg will be without three key All-PSAC East athletes on defense with the departure of Ryan D'Ambra (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood), Giovanni Cancro (Pequannock, N.J./Pequannock Township), and Charles Crews III (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area). The Huskies also lose two of their top receivers to graduation as Owen Anderson (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) and Matthew Bowes (Somerton, Pa./La Salle College HS) finished their careers in 2024.

RETURNING ALL-PSAC ATHLETES
Bloomsburg returns All-PSAC East wideout Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) for his senior season. Griffen-Batchler earned his first All-Conference honor as he was named a PSAC East First Team wide receiver. Griffen-Batchler put together a career year with 48 receptions for 854 yards. He averaged 4.36 catches per game and 17.79 yards per catch. Griffen-Batchler had eight receiving touchdowns and averaged 77.64 yards per game. He had four games with two touchdown catches and three games of 100+ receiving yards. Griffen-Batchler posted six catches for 209 yards and two touchdowns in the Huskies' 35-27 win over Millersville on six catches. His 209 receiving yards were the most by a Husky since 2003. 68 yards came on one touchdown catch for the junior. Griffen-Batchler also returned kickoffs and punts for the Huskies. He had 11 punt returns for 88 yards and had 324 kickoff return yards on the year. Griffen-Batchler had a conference-best 254 all-purpose yards in the Huskies' win over Millersville. For the year, Griffen-Batchler posted 1,259 all-purpose yards and averaged 114.45 yards per game. He finished second in the conference in receiving touchdowns and fifth in receiving yards and yards per game.

I'M HONORED
Bloomsburg linebacker Nahzier Booker (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) earned the first PSAC Weekly Honor for the Huskies as he was named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week following a dominant all-around performance that anchored the Huskies' 37-21 road victory over Millersville on Saturday.

Booker was everywhere for the Bloomsburg defense, finishing with a game-high 11 tackles including two sacks and three tackles for loss, while forcing a fumble and spearheading a front seven that limited the Marauders to just 96 rushing yards on 33 carries.

The sophomore linebacker was instrumental in halting several Millersville drives, recording both of his sacks on the Marauders final drive. His relentless pressure also helped force three interceptions as the Huskies' defense produced five total sacks and seven tackles for loss, holding the Marauders scoreless in the third quarter and to just one touchdown after halftime.

LOCKER ROOM TALK
Head coach Frank Sheptock continues to emphasize fast starts and strong finishes—and through eight games, the Huskies have shown late-half resilience that's kept them competitive week after week. Bloomsburg has scored 28 points in the first quarter, 66 in the second, 49 in the third, and 67 in the fourth, with their best production still coming in the second and fourth frames (133 combined points—over 60 % of total scoring).

The Huskies' ability to finish halves strong again surfaced at Millersville, where Bloomsburg racked up a season-high 511 yards of offense and scored 21 points after halftime to pull away. The balance and tempo on offense continue to trend upward as the Huskies prepare for their next PSAC East test.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

PROTECTING THE QB

Behind one of the PSAC East's most consistent lines, senior quarterback KJ Riley (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) has thrived. The Huskies have surrendered just 6 sacks for 41 yards through eight games—again among the conference's best marks in protection. That reliability paved the way for a breakout 296-yard passing performance at Millersville, where Bloomsburg set season highs in both passing and total offense

PLAYING A CLEAN GAME
Discipline remains a calling card of Sheptock-led teams. The Huskies have been flagged 46 times for 387 yards (48.38 avg yds per game) while forcing opponents into 439 yards of penalties. That composure continues to sustain drives and produce a 76 % fourth-down conversion rate (13-of-17), second best in the PSAC.

ALL-PURPOSE JGB
Senior wideout Jerry Griffen-Batchler (Norristown, Pa./Germantown Academy) remains one of Division II's top multipurpose threats. In seven games he's totaled 593 receiving yards, 232 kick-return yards, and 58 punt-return yards for 883 all-purpose yards (126.1 per game). He's averaging 16.9 yards per catch with seven touchdowns and now ranks sixth all-time at Bloomsburg (2,226 career yards).
