No. 6 Field Hockey Falls in PSAC Quarterfinals to No. 3 Shippensburg, 2-0

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The No. 6 Bloomsburg field hockey team fell in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Quarterfinals to No. 3 Shippensburg, 2-0, at Robb Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (13-5) finished with nine saves in the contest, including a defensive save from Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) in the third quarter. Mckenna Boyle posted both goals for Shippensburg (15-3).

The first half of the opening quarter proved to be a defensive clinic with neither side notching a shot. Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) registered the first shot of the contest on a chip shot in front of Emma Albee, who swatted the ball out of play.

Maura Greek (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) kept the game scoreless, collecting a pair of saves with under a minute to go in the frame. The senior tallied two more saves in the second quarter as the score remained tied at 0-0 entering halftime.

The Raiders put pressure on the Huskies coming out of the break, firing a shot on gal off a penalty corner two minutes in. Shippensburg earned a second corner which found its way to Boyle who fired the opening goal past Greek at the 32:17-mark.

Bloomsburg responded with an offensive burst of its own, forcing Albee to make back-to-back saves on shots from Alexandra Bliss (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) and Bush.

After driving right back down the field, SU earned a corner and proceeded to fire four shots in the span of 13 seconds. The sequence saw Greek make two stops while Flick pulled the ball off the line to keep the game within one.

The maroon and gold had a good chance to level the score with five minutes to play in the game, as Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport) fired a shot from the top of the shooting circle on a corner. The shot deflected off a defender and looked to go up-and-over Albee before the netminder got a piece of the ball to keep the Raiders on top.

The fourth quarter saw Huskies test the Raiders, forcing Albee to make a trio of saves in the frame. Bloomsburg had possession for much of the fourth quarter but were unable to hold off Boyle, who found the back of the net with 19 seconds remaining to close out the game.

The loss ends the Huskies attempt at the PSAC Championship and Bloomsburg now awaits a potential bid to the NCAA Tournament. The selection show for the NCAA Tournament is on Monday, November 9 at 9:30 p.m.
