Lacrosse Improves to 3-0 on the Year with a 13-8 Win Over Georgian Court

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team rolled to its third straight win as the Huskies defeated Georgian Court, 13-8, Saturday afternoon. The win propels Bloomsburg to a 3-0 start on the year while the Lions drop to 1-4.
 
The Huskies' offense is firing on all cylinders as eight different players recorded a goal for Bloomsburg and 11 had at least one point. Marykate Sitko's (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) breakout sophomore campaign continues with four more goals, including a hat trick in the first quarter alone. Brianna Austin (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Abby Seifert (Laurel, N.Y./Mattituck) each had two goals while Kayla Stessman, Tori Bruno (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley), Emily Simpson (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic), Payton Bettys (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), and Mia Boccippio (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) scored once. Stressman led the team with three assists while Bruno added two and Simpson had one. Samantha Keck (Denver, Pa./Cocalico), Delaney Fox (Barto, Pa./Boyertown), and Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) contributed an assist as the Huskies assisted in nine of their 13 goals, their highest assist total of the season.
 
Sitko led the team with four draw controls while Simpson and Mikayla Viola (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) each won a pair of draw controls.
 
Defensively, Sophia Zelasko (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led Bloomsburg with five ground balls and four caused turnovers while Sitko and Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) each had four ground balls. Foley picked up in the win in cage for Bloomsburg with three saves in the 60:00 while Cadence Gentile took the loss for Georgian Court.
 
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead with goals from Austin and Sitko in the first 2:30 of action before Georgian Court got on the board at the 11:23 mark to cut the lead in half. Bloomsburg rattled off four-straight goals to take a 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, including two more from Sitko and one from Stressman and Simpson. The Huskies' six goals in the first 15 minutes forced a goalie change for Georgian Court and Natalie Moradian closed out the game in cage.
 
Georgian Court out-scored the Huskies 3-1 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 7-4 at halftime. Bloomsburg's lone goal came from Sitko to complete her four-goal game.
 
After the break, Bruno got the Huskies back on track with her first goal of the game to push the lead to 8-4 with 13:57 to play in the quarter. Seifert scored her first of the year with 9:14 to play in the third to extend the Huskies' lead to 9-4. The Huskies closed out the quarter with two from Brianna Austin (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Payton Bettys (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) for the 11-5 lead with just 15 minutes to play in regulation.
 
Boccippio opened the fourth quarter scoring with her second of the season at 10:44 and Seifert extended the lead to 13-5 with 5:28 to play in the fourth.

Georgian Court scored three goals in just over a minute of game play but ran out of time to mount any type of comeback. Nena Menard scored at the 3:05 mark to cut the lead to 13-6 and Jill Konschak won the ensuing draw control to set up the Lions' offense. Addison Rivera scored a the 2:42 mark and then won the next draw control to keep the ball on Georgian Court's side of the field. Caitlin Petrellese scored with 1:53 to play and Rivera won the next draw. Simpson caused a turnover on the Lions' possession with 1:01 to play and completed the successful clear to run out the clock and seal the 13-8 win.
 
Bloomsburg returns to action on Monday as the Huskies open PSAC action against Kutztown on the road. The game is set for 2:00 p.m.
