Lacrosse Falls to #12 East Stroudsburg on Wednesday

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg lacrosse team battled until the final whistle but fell to #12 East Stroudsburg, 16-8, Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies dropped to 6-9 on the year and 2-8 in PSAC East action while the Warriors improved to 10-4 and 7-2 in conference action.

Bloomsburg scored four unanswered goals to close out the contest, including a pair of scores with less than a minute to play in regulation. At the 9:24 mark, Emily Simpson (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored her first of the game and 13th of the season off a pass from Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) to cut the Warriors' lead to 16-5. Just under two minutes later, Marykate Sitko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored to cut the lead to 10, 16-6. The Huskies never stopped battling and Mia Boccippio (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) scored with 36 seconds to play to get the Huskies within nine, 16-7. Kayla Stressman (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) scored the game's final goal thanks to an assist from Sophia Zelasko (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) for the game's final score of 16-8.
 
East Stroudsburg jumped out to an early lead with four goals in the first six minutes of action of the first. Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) halted the run for ESU with her ninth of the year before the Warriors closed out the quarter with two-straight goals and kicked off the second with their seventh of the game. Boccippio scored with 9:50 to play in the second to cut the lead back to 7-2. The Warriors closed out the quarter with five-straight to take a 12-2 lead into halftime.

Bloomsburg quickly cut the lead back to nine, 12-3, as Stressman scored off a pass from Alexis Guzylak (Corning, N.Y./Horseheads) with 13:17 to play in the quarter. ESU closed out the quarter with three-straight to take a 15-3 lead going into the final quarter. Sressman scored again to cut the lead to 11, 15-4, with 12:37 to play. Sadie Kauffman scored her final goal of the game with 11:03 to push the Warrior lead to 16-4 before the Huskies four-goal run to end the game.

Stressman led the Huskies with three goals while Boccippio had two. Sitko led Bloomsburg with 11 draw controls and picked up three ground balls.

Defensively, Knize led Bloomsburg with two caused turnovers while Annemaria Davenport also picked up three ground balls.

Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) led Bloomsburg with four saves in the cage while her counterpart, Abby Simonetti made 12 saves in the win.
 
The Huskies return to action on Saturday when they travel to Shepherd for a 1:00 p.m. PSAC East contest in Shepherdstown, W. Va.
