Softball Erupts For Dynamic Day at the Plate in Doubleheader Sweep Against Millersville

Freshman Allie Wenrich pieced together a career-best day with three home runs and eight RBI, as the Huskies tally 25 runs on 29 hits against the Marauders.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg softball team wrapped up a busy four-day stretch with a resounding doubleheader sweep over Millersville Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies (26-14, 16-10 PSAC East) were locked in at the plate, totaling 25 runs on 29 hits across two games against the Marauders (22-26, 6-22 PSAC East). The two teams went blow for blow through the middle innings of game one before Bloomsburg outslugged Millersville in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away 12-7. The Huskies kept their feet on the gas with an emphatic 13-2 result in game two with the continually flowing offense.

Allie Wenrich (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) had a day to remember against the Marauders, going 5-for-7 (.714) at the dish with three home runs, a double, five runs scored and eight RBI, including a career-high five in game one. Reagan Wiest (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) continued a torrent stretch in conference action with another strong series, piecing together a 3-for-7 (.429) afternoon with a home run, three runs scored, and four batted in. Sarah Yamrick (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot) continued a trend of tremendous two-way performances, batting 4-for-6 (.667) with a double, three RBI and a run scored while pitching 7.0 total innings across the two games with nine strikeouts to record her second save and 10th victory on the season.

How It Happened:

Game One:
The signs of an offensive day flowed with the constant winds throughout Saturday to begin game one. Millersville got the first two runners aboard safely before a sacrifice bunt put both in scoring position with one out. Callie Sowers (Irwin, Pa/Hempfield Area) and the Bloomsburg defense remained vigilant, fending off a squeeze bunt to prevent a run before a strong throw at third ended an eventful first half-inning. Bella Culp (Harrisburg, Pa/Central Dauphin) led the game off for the Huskies with a single, but the team did not record another hit in the inning.

Emma Little (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn-Trafford) hit the first of six total home runs on the afternoon for Bloomsburg with a solo shot to get the scoring started in the bottom of the second to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The lead would last just over an inning as two singles and a sacrifice bunt tied the game for the Marauders before a two-run home run to dead center gave the visitors a 3-1 advantage.

The Huskies responded immediately, with Wenrich going yard for the first time Saturday with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Wiest followed two batters later with her own single-run shot to knot the contest at 3-3. After a four-pitch walk from Malauni Frost (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) and a two-strike double from Sage Weidlich (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) put two runners in scoring position to allow Yamrick to drive in the pair with a two-run single up the middle of the infield.

The newly minted two-run lead was short-lived as two walks in the top of the fifth converted into two runs off a double inside the right-field line to tie the game at five. Kelly Eberly (Purcellville, Va/Homeschooled) was the next pitcher to enter the same, getting the final two outs of the inning on swinging strikes to keep the game even.

The Bloomsburg freshmen stepped up in pivotal spots in the bottom of the fifth to put the Huskies back on top. After Taylor Kranzley (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) started the bottom of the fifth with a single, the second baseman rounded her way into home off a RBI double from Wenrich for the lead. Little bunted over the outfielder, setting up Wiest for an RBI single and a 7-5 game. The third pitching change of the contest followed, and Frost welcomed the new arm with a two-run home run to left field on the first pitch of the at-bat to extend Bloomsburg's edge to four runs.

Millersville did not run away from the chance to get back into the game, loading the bases with no outs in the top of the sixth. Yamrick inherited the situation and managed well through the first two batters faced with a pair of punchouts. The Marauders chipped away at the deficit with a single and a 10-pitch walk to make it a 9-7 contest before a foul pop-up against the third-base fence got Bloomsburg out of the inning. The Huskies found the finishing blow, delivered at the hands of Wenrich's career-best performance. With a single and walk from Yamrick and Kranzley, the outfielder lofted a towering shot toward the left side, facing a 1-2 count to put the Huskies over double figures and provide a reasonable cushion.

Yamrick battled against an unrelenting Millersville lineup with the game on the line. After weak contact to the infielders, the first two batters were retired in the face of loaded counts. The Marauders' last sign of hope in game one came from a pinch-hit two-out double before Yamrick squared up against the final batter for her third strikeout of the save opportunity and the win.

Game Two:
The Huskies wasted little time continuing a vehement day at the plate with a seven-run first inning. After Yamrick stranded two runners in scoring position at the top of the first, Bloomsburg went on a rampant stretch in the bottom portion of the frame. With one out, the Huskies recorded five consecutive hits, beginning with an RBI double from Mia Nemeth (Drums, Pa/Marian Catholic). Bloomsburg recorded four singles in a row from Wenrich, Yamrick, Little and Wiest to plate three more runs and force an early pitching substitution from Millersville. A wild pitch moved both runners on base into scoring position, allowing Frost to plate the first on a sacrifice fly and make it a 5-0 game. A single from Weidlich put runners on the corners before a hard-struck ball from Culp drove in the runner from third before an awkward bounce in the outfield allowed Weidlich to score from first to cap off an eventful first inning.

A second-inning rain delay halted the initial momentum from the Huskies, allowing the Marauders to recollect themselves in the interim. Millersville opened the top of the third with a single, a double and a walk to load the bases with only one out on the scoreboard. The Marauders plated one from a sacrifice fly before a two-out single cut the Bloomsburg lead to five.

The Huskies' efforts to respond paid dividends with a two-out rally in the bottom half of the third. The top of the lineup got things rolling for Bloomsburg with singles from Culp and Kranzley. Nemeth plated Culp with the third straight single of the inning for the Huskies, bringing the bat of Wnerich back to the plate. On the first pitch of the at-bat, the freshman belted her third home run of the afternoon to her preferred spot in left field and pushed the contest to a nine-run threshold.

Yamrick's fourth inning, featuring two strikeouts, put Bloomsburg in a comfortable place to wrap up the afternoon. Substitutions from both teams ensued, allowing several players to take some hacks at the plate. Grace Baker (Richboro, Pa./Quakertown) led off the inning with a single into left field. Jayla Bartholomew (Williamsport, Pa/Williamsport) worked a nine-pitch walk that ended in a wild pitch, allowing Baker to move up to third base. Emma Holmes (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern Senior) took the first pitch of her pinch-hit opportunity and ripped it into center field to tally her first career RBI. With runners on second and third, a well-struck ball from Nemeth forced an errant throw from the Marauders at third base to give the Huskies their 13 lead in the contest.

Yamrick finished things off early with another controlled inning on the mound. The sophomore battled through another full count to send Millersville's leadoff batter down looking on strikes. Yamrick hit the next batter with her first pitch before working a 0-2 count in the following sequence. Stepping into right field, Bartholomew tracked down a hanging fly ball that sent the senior into the fence, hanging on as the runner advanced to second with two outs. The ball found the substitute again, as Bartholomew snagged the final out to clinch the sweep.

Numbers of Note:
10 -
Wenrich's phenomenal display of first-year power adds pop to the Bloomsburg lineup. The freshman outfielder is the first player for the Huskies since 2022 to notch double-digit home runs in a season. Wenrich is also the team leader in multi-RBI games, with 10 after her efforts on Saturday.

53 - The Huskies enjoyed visits from the members of the Millersville rotation in 2025. As a team, Bloomsburg totaled 53 hits in the four games against the Marauders, including four games with at least 14. The Huskies' best mark of the season is 54 in four games against Shippensburg.

4 - Bloomsburg's success in the face of four consecutive doubleheaders comes from contributions across the entire team. Yamrick had the Huskies in a position to win every time taking the mound. The sophomore utility played in all eight games, pitching four consecutive days to a 4-0 record with a save.

23 - As part of a collective display at the plate, Little continued to claim new places in the Bloomsburg softball record books. The senior moved into 10th in program history in career home runs with her 23rd as a Husky.
