Lacrosse Ends Season With 24-14 Defeat to No. 2 West Chester

The Huskies gap kept within four goals for much of the fourth quarter before the Golden Rams pulled away late.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg lacrosse team's season wrapped up Saturday afternoon in a 24-14 defeat to No. 2 West Chester at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Huskies (7-10, 3-9 PSAC East) remained competitive with the Golden Rams (16-0, 12-0 PSAC East) through a notable portion of Saturday's contest, trailing 5-4 after the first quarter. Despite West Chester going up 15-7 at the half, Bloomsburg fought back to make it a 16-11 game before a fourth-quarter run for the visitors.

Marykate Sitko (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) led the Huskies in scoring, ending the game with three goals and two assists for a team-best five points. The midfielder added three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and a ground ball to her tally. Kayla Stressman (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) tied for the team-high three goals, adding an assist and four draw controls. Tori Bruno (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) and Sophia Zelasko (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) each totaled three assists in the game.

How It Happened:
Bloomsburg took the fight to the second-ranked side in the nation with the contest's opening goal. An early turnover from the Golden Rams led to early offensive opportunities for the Huskies, with Sitko nabbing the opener after a reset possession.

West Chester would tie and eventually take the lead in the first with a 3-0, three-minute run. Sitko turned provider for her team's second goal, finding Delaney Fox (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) to make it 3-2. Quick goals in succession from the Golden Rams made it a 5-2 game with over seven minutes in the opening quarter. Bloomsburg responded to the challenge, with Maya Fulmer (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) catching a pass from Zelasko to get the Huskies back on the scoreboard before Sitko's third point of the quarter made it a one-goal game. The first period went without a goal for the final three-and-a-half minutes, as turnovers plagued both teams.

Bloomsburg continued to battle with West Chester through the early goings of the second quarter. Goals from Stressman and Mia Boccippio (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough), receiving passes from Emily Gauker (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Zelasko, kept the Huskies within three goals with under 10 minutes to play in the first half. The Golden Rams would stifle Bloomsburg's offensive momentum for nearly eight minutes, with the visitors rattling off a 5-0 run in the process for a 14-6 advantage. Reiley Knize (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) would give the Huskies one more before the break, but not before a responding effort from West Chester to keep it an eight-goal gap after one half of action.

Bloomsburg's resilience was on display in the third quarter, as the Huskies held the Golden Rams to just one goal through the first 15 minutes of the second half. Bruno was the catalyst offensively, recording an assist on the team's first three goals of the quarter, finding Stressman on the first two and Boccippio on the third to reduce the deficit to six. Bloomsburg beat the whistle to close the third, with Fox and Gauker connecting to make it a 16-11 game through 45 minutes.

The Huskies managed to close the gap to as little as four in the fourth quarter past the halfway point of the final period. Alexis Guzlayk found the back of the net on Bloomsburg's first possession of the quarter off a feed from Zelasko. After West Chester scored its first of the quarter, Sitko netted an answer on the team's next offensive possession. The Golden Rams looked to prove a point in the closing moments of Saturday's contest, going on a 7-1 run to close the game. Bruno notched the Huskies' final goal of the 2025 season, bringing down a high-arcing pass from Sitko to find the back of the net.

Defensively, Bloomsburg did well to keep West Chester off its game for portions of the afternoon. Sitko, Zelasko, and Mikayla Viola (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) led the team, tied with two caused turnovers apiece. As a team, the Huskies forced West Chester to commit a season-high 23 turnovers. Minding the net. Lauren Foley (Schwenksville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) went on strong runs to give her team a chance to fight back, ending the day with her eighth double-digit save performance of the season.
