Men's Tennis Falls to Edinboro in NCAA Tournament

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's tennis team battled Edinboro for the second time in a week as the Huskies took on the Fighting Scots in the opening round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. Edinboro earned a 4-1 win, Friday morning.

The Huskies earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and entered the championship as the No. 7 seed from the Atlantic Region. Edinboro earned its No. 2 seed by virtue of winning the 2025 PSAC Men's Tennis Championship.

Edinboro got off to a 1-0 start after a tightly contested doubles competition. The Fighting Scots clinched the first point with a 7-6 (1-0) win at No. 1 doubles but Vishesh Patel (Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India/Asia English School) and Sergio Dilan (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Cedin) pushed their Edinboro opponents to the brink. Fernando Barros (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Hoosac School) and Jaime Soria (Pamplona, Spain/Liceo Monjardin) were in a tightly contested No. 3 doubles match when the point was called and tied 6-6. Denis Dementev (Saint-Petersburg, Russia/) and Iu Casamitjana (Igualada, Spain/Escola Pia Igualada) fell at No. 2 doubles, 6-3.

Edinboro took a 3-0 match lead with a 6-3. 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Albert Martin (Barcelona/Instituto Menendez y Pelayo) got the Huskies on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles. Martin's win avenged a regular season loss to Fabricio Sosa Pons when the pair met in March. Martin won the first set during the regular season showdown and Pons took the final two sets for the win at No. 4 singles.

Arsen Tabaldyev out-lasted Barros at No. 6 singles to clinch the match for Edinboro. Tabaldyev won 6-0 in the first set but Barros came back for a 6-2 win in the second. Tabaldyev finished out the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.

The Huskies wrap up the season with an 11-4 overall record after their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2012.
