BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell in four sets to Lock Haven in its season-opener in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match inside the Nelson Field House on Tuesday night.

Bloomsburg (7-4, 0-1 PSAC East) recorded 35 kills in the four-set bout while Lock Haven (3-7, 1-0) notched 44.
Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) and
Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) led the Huskies in kills with eight while
Jordan Pryor (Middletown, Md./Middletown) followed closely behind with seven. Wales finished the game a team leading six blocks.

After an early exchange gave Lock Haven a 3-2 lead, the Bald Eagles went on an 8-1 run to surge to an 11-3 advantage. The Huskies closed the gap slightly with a three-point run before the set fell into a back-and-forth rhythm. A series of short runs from Lock Haven helped to hand the visitors the set one victory, 25-14.

Set two saw the Bald Eagles carry over the momentum as they quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead. Bloomsburg responded back with 5-1 run to close the gap to just two points. The two sides continued to battle to a 14-12 score before Lock Haven surged ahead to an 18-12 lead. Despite a pair of short runs for the Huskies, the Bald Eagles held on to take the second set, 25-20.

Neither side looked to give an inch at the start of set three, battling back-and-forth to a 4-4 stalemate. A five-point swing saw the maroon and gold take a 9-4 lead in a run that saw back-to-back aces from Pryor. After the Bloomsburg run, the two sides went back to trading points for most of the set. A late three-point run from the Huskies set the stage for Wales to close out the set, 25-18 and force a fourth set.

With Lock Haven ahead 5-4 early in the set, a seven-point run from the Bald Eagles moved the score to 12-4. The Huskies manage to break the run with a kill from
Marlee Johnson (Newville, Pa./Big Spring), but Lock Haven extended its lead to 16-5 with a four-point run. At late run from the Huskies proved to be too little too late as Lock Haven took the fourth and final set, 25-17.

Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday, September 26 as they head to California (Pa.) for a 6 p.m. match against the Vulcans.
