No. 6 Field Hockey Notches Third-Straight Shutout in 6-0 Rout Against American International

Springfield, Mass. – The no.6-ranked Bloomsburg field hockey team rolled to its third-straight shutout to start the season, defeating American International 6-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Bloomsburg (3-0) used a four-goal outburst in the second quarter to carry itself to victory to complete the sweep of the New England road trip to start the season. Genna Bush (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) tallied her second-straight two goal game, earning assists from Morgan Magditch (Kintersville, Pa./Palisades) on both goals.

The Huskies put on a clinic defensively, allowing just one shot that was off target.

Bush put the maroon and gold on the board first, getting a stick on a shot into the circle from Magditch to take the lead just four minutes in. Yellow Jackets' goalkeeper Frederique Den Hartog kept it close in remainder of the quarter, turning away back-to-back shots from the Huskies.

Bloomsburg got to work quickly in the second as Alexandra Bliss (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) doubled the Huskies lead with her first collegiate goal two minutes into the frame. Bliss brought the ball down the right side and into the circle before a centering pass deflected off an AIC defender and found the back of the cage.

Three minutes later, the Huskies drew a penalty stroke with set the stage for freshman Hannah Huddleson (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone Area). Huddleson fired the penalty stroke into the left side of the cage to make it 3-0.

It took just two minutes for the Huskies to get back on the board as a flurry in front eventually led to the ball finding Magditch on the right side. Magditch connected with Bush in front of the cage for the Huskies' fourth goal and Bush's second of the contest.

A breakaway late in the second quarter for Bloomsburg saw Alli Bucher (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) make a move around the goalie and pot her first collegiate goal and give the Huskies a 5-0 lead going into halftime.

The maroon and gold posted its sixth goal of the game in the third quarter on a corner as a drop pass from Bliss found the stick of Raegan Iasiello (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) who launched her first of the season into the back of the net.

Overall, the Huskies finished the game outshooting the Yellow Jackets 16-1 while posting a 13-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Bloomsburg will return home on Wednesday, September 10 as they host Pace for the home opener at Steph Pettit Stadium at 3 p.m.
