Men's Basketball Bested on the Road by East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball fell on the road to East Stroudsburg, 106-70, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) inside the Koehler Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
 
Despite the loss, Bloomsburg (4-10, 1-7 PSAC) posted its best shooting performance of the season by going 29-for-57 (50.9 percent) from the floor. The Huskies also went 9-for-18 from beyond the arc. The second half saw the maroon and gold go 18-for-33 (54.55 percent) and 6-for-10 from three-point territory. East Stroudsburg (11-4, 5-4) went 41-for-73 (56.2 percent) including 24-for-36 (66.67 percent) shooting in the first half.
 
George Sabatini (Mountain Top, Pa./Holy Redeemer) led the Huskies in scoring, going 7-for-12 to finish with 15 points. The sophomore also hauled in four rebounds. Naeem Purnell-Northern (Darby, Pa./Penn Wood) notched a career-high in points with eight, going 3-for-3 with two three-pointers across just nine minutes. Chase Smucker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) doubled his season assist total in the matchup, tallying a career-high 5 assists.
 
The Warriors' Ethan Maynard got the scoring started early, sinking a jumper 22 seconds into the contest. Sabatini responded quickly, taking an inbound pass underneath the basket for the layup. ESU scored back-to-back layups to move ahead 6-4 before Thaddeus Lee (Lancaster, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) notched two layups of his own to level the score at 6-6. East Stroudsburg slowly started to grow a lead throughout the second half, using a 27-2 run to pull away. At the halftime whistle, ESU led 63-25.
 
Courtney Davis II (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) got Bloomsburg on the board first in the second half, hitting a floater from the top of the key. The Huskies and the Warriors would go shot for shot for the entirety of the frame, with Bloomsburg outscoring the home team, 45-43, in the second half.
 
Bloomsburg returns home to the Nelson Field House on Thursday, January 15 as they host West Chester at 7:30 p.m.
