Footballs Falls to ESU Saturday Night

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg football team saw its three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday evening as East Stroudsburg defeated the Huskies, 34-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium.

Despite the setback, several Huskies delivered notable individual performances, led by Garrett Garcia's (Catawissa, Pa./Southern Columbia) eight tackles, including seven solo stops and a tackle for loss. Brady Thompson (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) added seven tackles, while Tyler Frey (York, Pa./Central York) and Nahzier Booker (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) finished with six apiece. Brady Ronan (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone Area) contributed two tackles for loss as Bloomsburg's defense recorded six stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Offensively, Declan Clancy (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) paced the Huskies with 50 rushing yards on 10 carries, averaging 5.0 yards per attempt. Justin Wolfe (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) added 32 receiving yards on three catches and a 15-yard rush, while Eli Zimmerman (Schnecksville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) continued to contribute across multiple phases with a team-high 96 all-purpose yards, including a 22-yard punt return.

Bloomsburg (4-2, 1-1 PSAC East) put together its most promising offensive possession late in the first quarter, moving 47 yards in seven plays behind a 17-yard run from Clancy, a third-down completion from Zayd Etheridge (Bridgeport, Pa./Upper Merion) to Wolfe and a 15-yard rush by Wolfe. However, a fumble at the East Stroudsburg 28-yard line was returned 72 yards for a touchdown by Mason Smith, extending the Warriors' advantage to 14-0 early in the second quarter.

East Stroudsburg (5-1, 2-0 PSAC East) opened the scoring on a 6-yard touchdown run by Ajani Walker and carried a 17-0 lead into halftime. The Warriors added 17 second-half points to secure the victory. Ty Quintos hit a 30-yard field goal early in the third while Cade Sawyer ran in a touchdown in the third and David Washington, Jr. caught a touchdown pass from Matt Machalik.

The Huskies finished with 147 yards of total offense, while East Stroudsburg accumulated 382 yards, including 278 on the ground.

Bloomsburg will look to regroup following its first conference loss of the season. The Huskies head to Shepherd on Saturday, October 17 for a 12:00 p.m. PSAC East match up.
