BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg volleyball team fell in straight sets at Nelson Field House against Shepherd on Friday.

The Huskies (8-11, 1-8 PSAC East) put up a strong effort in the first set, but dropped the opening frame by a score of 23-25. The Rams (17-2, 7-3 PSAC East) took the momentum from capturing the opening set into a decisive second-set decision and the eventual third-set and match victory.

Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) finished the evening with seven kills, followed by a six-kill performance by
Lena Jones (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area).
Sara Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom Area) contributed from the service line with three aces in the contest.

How It Happened:
Bloomsburg began the match jumping out to a 4-1 lead, taking advantage of a pair of attacking mistakes before kills by
Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College) and Jones. Shepherd would respond by tying the set at 5-5, initiating the back-and-forth that continued deep into the set. Down 13-14, the Huskies rattled off three consecutive points, with contributions from
Sasha Moody (Abington, PA/Abington Senior), Jones, and Wales, to find a two-point cushion. The ebb and flow continued, with the Rams rallying to take a two-point lead before giving way to a 22-20 Bloomsburg advantage. With a strong start on the table for both sides, it was Shepherd that rose to the occasion to take the first set. The Rams closed on a 5-1 run, finishing with three consecutive kills from three different contributors.

Shepherd's late surge overwhelmed the Huskies and carried that ferocity into the second set. The visitors made it a 2-0 match by taking the frame, 25-9. Bloomsburg did not have its best swings in the set, finishing with just four by the end while the Rams only had one attacking error as a team.

Shepherd continued its efforts to win the match, racing out to an 11-5 edge in the third set. The Huskies showed resolve to get back in the set and the match, closing their deficit to three at 11-14. The Rams put a damper on any Bloomsburg hopes of wiggling back into the match, responding with a 6-0 run to inch closer to the victory at 20-11. A few late kills by Kuehl down the stretch gave some attacking life to the Huskies, but it was not enough to prevent Shepherd from completing the sweep.

On the Horizon:
The Huskies make the short trip on Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 p.m. to take on Lackawanna.
