BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg
field hockey team shuts out the #5-ranked West Chester in 1-0 victory.
Sophie Lawler (Newport, Pa./Newport) scored the lone goal of the game, her fourth on the season.
Alyxandra Flick (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) found Lawler for the score.
Molly Bross (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) recorded four saves while shutting out her seventh team this season.
Alexandra Bliss (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) also earned a defensive save in the contest. Bross and the Huskies now bolster their record to 9-1 (2-0 PSAC).
West Chester outshot the Huskies 15(5)-7(3), but could not get past the Bloomsburg defense. Bloomsburg proved this by stopping nine penalty corners from the Golden Rams.
First Half:
West Chester started aggressive early by shooting seven shots in the first period alone. The Huskies were unable to get a shot off in the first period, but that did not last long.
In the second period Flick would find Lawler to break the 0-0 score and give the Huskies the lead.
Second Half:
Both teams traded shots, but neither team could stop earn a goal. The Huskies defense dismantled the West Chester offense and hung onto their 1-0 lead and took their second victory in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
On the Horizon:
The Huskies will take on the defending NCAA Field Hockey Division II champions Shippensburg Raiders. They will play on Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. in Shippensburg.
