Men's Soccer Drops Road Contest at Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bloomsburg men's soccer team fell in a 2-0 result on the road to Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday.

The Huskies (4-5-3) fell behind early in the first half and lacked the finishing touch to respond to the Redhawks (3-7-2). The hosts would eventually double their advantage in the second half, with Bloomsburg unable to muster a response in the full 90 minutes.

How It Happened:
The Huskies hoped to set the tone early, creating quality chances in the opening minutes. Bloomsburg began the day with a pair of corners drawn inside the first 10 minutes but were unable to convert from either of the set-piece chances. Owen Hollobaugh (State College, Pa./State College) was the first Husky to get a shot on goal, but his 11th-minute chance was denied.

The Huskies would regret not converting on those opportunities, as Roberts Wesleyan scored from their first shot of the match from a corner kick. Forced to chase, Bloomsburg's goal-scoring threats were limited by a stingy Roberts side. The Redhawks held the Huskies to only one shot following the goal, a 24th-minute crack on net by Zayd DeVeaux (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy).

Bloomsburg would once again fall victim to an immediate chance from Roberts Wesleyan, as the Redhawks took the first opportunity of the second half and put it into the back of the net to double the home team's lead.

The Huskies, in desperate need of a spark, continued in their attempts to chip away at the deficit. Bloomsburg's offensive push forward was limited despite the necessity for goals. The Huskies recorded three shots, all on goal, from Hollobaugh, Isaiah Boone (Hazlet, N.J./Saint John Vianney), and Finn Garner (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) in a half hour past the doubling tally. The hopes to mount a comeback ended up empty for Bloomsburg, with only one additional shot in the final 11 minutes of action.

On the Horizon:
The Huskies return to PSAC action on Saturday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m., facing West Chester.
