Women's Soccer Cruises to 4-0 Victory Over Lackawanna

The Huskies fired off 46 shots in 90 minutes played against the Falcons on Wednesday.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's soccer team bounced back with a 4-0 win at Steph Pettit Stadium over Lackawanna on Wednesday.

The Huskies (8-4) could not make a dent in the first 15 minutes of the contest against the Falcons (1-10), but soon broke through off a long-range effort from Lindsey Bull (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia). Bloomsburg doubled its advantage in the 34th minute, as Bull provided the service that connected with the head of Kelsey Beatie (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink). An early red card shown to Lackawanna in the second half severely diminished the visitors' comeback hopes, as the Huskies would find a pair of goals in the final 45 minutes from Meg Mullin (Delran, N.J./Delran) and Morgan Pennisi (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) to ice the contest. In her first collegiate start between the sticks, goalkeeper Kayla Kennelly (White Haven, Pa./PA Cyber Charter) recorded the shutout with two saves.

How It Happened:
Bloomsburg did not get off to the start it had likely hoped for to begin Wednesday's contest. After scoring inside the first few minutes on the road at Lackawanna last month, the Huskies were held to one shot in the first 13 minutes of action. Bloomsburg cranked up the intensity from that moment forward, as the Huskies began to stack several chances inside the 15-minute mark.

Bloomsburg started the scoring just past the aforementioned threshold with a belter from over 25 yards out from Bull. Bull started the sequence for the Huskies after the Falcons could not maintain possession after a goal kick. Bloomsburg moved the ball from the right to the left side of the defense, where Madelyn Blake (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) put in a well-weighted ball over the top to Niamh Fanning (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock). Fanning's pass was redirected after a step by a defender, leading the ball to drift into unoccupied territory, as several seconds ticked off the clock without a player on the ball. The ample amount of time gave her a clean run up to strike the ball first-time off her right foot and place the ball into the top of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Bull's contributions would not stop there, as the senior defender linked up with her freshman counterpart in Beatie to double their team's lead. Continuing to mount pressure, the Huskies momentarily slowed the pace for a corner kick. Bull stepped into the ensuing kick and delivered a well-placed, outswinging ball to a spot only reachable on the pitch for Beatie. The forward elevated above the crowd in the box and whipped a header into the left side of the net for the goal.

Bloomsburg looked to build upon its lead in the closing minutes of the half despite the cushion. The Huskies had eight shots in the moments that followed the second goal, including three on target in the final three-and-a-half minutes of the half. Bloomsburg finished with 28 shots in the first 45 minutes of the match.

The Huskies wasted little time and got off to a preferred start in the second half with a goal just two minutes after the restart whistle. A quick-taken throw-in had the Lackawanna backline scrambling to get back into position. Mullin drew the penalty with a quick turn that went off the extended arm of a Falcon player to send her team to the spot. Her teammates returned the favor, granting Mullin the chance to take the shot. The midfielder would repay the confidence with a hard-struck take into the back of the net to make it 3-0.

Bloomsburg eventually wrapped up its scoring efforts just past the hour mark. After a pair of on-target shots in the minutes that preceded, the Huskies were threatening in multiple places in and around the 18-yard box. A shot by Blake from 20 yards away deflected off a defender and directly to the feet of Pennisi. The junior immediately fired off an attempt from the rebound that took a bounce off the post before rolling over the line for the fourth and final goal of the night.

Number of Note:
46 - Bloomsburg let the shots fly on Wednesday night with a quickly climbing tally. The Huskies finished with 46 attempts at goal in the match, the most for Bloomsburg since recording 50 against Mansfield on September 19, 2019.

25 & 37 - Wednesday saw the Huskies rotate the team and give its whole roster valuable game minutes. Bloomsburg has now started 25 different players this season, and 37 have seen time on the field in 2026.

On the Horizon:
Bloomsburg jumps back into PSAC play on Saturday, October 10, with a trip to take on Shepherd for a 3:30 p.m. meeting.
