BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg
women's basketball team lost in a close bout against Kutztown 48-45.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) led the starters in points with eight points.
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) had seven points and led the team in rebounds with nine.
Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) scored six points,
Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) had five and
Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) finished with four.
From the bench,
Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) tied Maynard in points with eight while
Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) contributed with seven.
First Half:
Ferguson started the quarter with a good layup to start the game. The game was 4-2 in Kutztown's favor with 7:10 left. Both teams would go on a shooting drought that would be broken by the Golden Bears with 1:54 left in the quarter. Maynard scored with a pair of free throws to make the game with two. Kutztown ended the quarter with a late three-pointer to put them up 9-4.
Hatajik brought the momentum back for the Huskies with a quick three-pointer. The Golden Bears came back with a three of their own, but Shults responded with a layup plus the foul. Making the free throw, the game was 12-10 Kutztown. Ferguson tied it up with a layup, but Kutztown responded with a jumper. Maynard and Hatajik had some scoring to bring the lead back to the Huskies, but a buzzer-beating three from Kutztown ended the half a tie game.
Second Half:
Maynard got fouled and shot a pair of free throws to start the second half. The Huskies brought the lead by as much as six in the third with scoring from Maynard and Shults. The two then shared three-point shots, making the game four-point game. Kutztown, again would tie the game and then end the quarter up 31-27.
Kale tried to bring the momentum back by draining a three early in the second. Leszcynski also hit a quick three to tie the game 33-33 with 7:28 left. Kutztown would continue to get buckets from the paint, making the lead 40-36. Hatajik would get an and-1 to bring it within one. Leszcynski also added a three after Kutztown responded, making it 43-42 with less than 2:20 left in regulation. It would be 48-42 with less than a minute left and Stevenson would get the foul and make both shots to make it 48-45. The Huskies could not make the late-game three to tie it and the game ended 48-45.

The Huskies will travel to Mansfield on Feb. 18. Tip off will be at 5:30 p.m.
