Women's Basketball Faces Loss Against Lock Haven

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team drops bout to Lock Haven, losing 69-56. 

Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) scored a career-best 22 points to lead both teams. Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored 11 points and led the team in rebounds with seven. Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) scored eight points, Ava Stevenson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) had six and LaFrance rounded out the starters with four. 

From the bench, Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) scored three points and Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) added two in the game.

First Half:

Leszcynski started the scoring for the Huskies with a three assisted by Hatajik. Maynard then hit two layups to put the Huskies up 7-0 to start the quarter. The Bald Eagles then scored four points to fire back, but Stevenson and Hatajik both hit fast break layups to bolster the lead to seven points again. The Bald Eagles then battled back, scoring seven points unanswered. Kale drained a 3-pointer to bring the lead back to the Huskies. The quarter ended after Stevenson hitting a pair from the charity stripe, making the lead 16-11. 

The second quarter started with a pair of free throws from LaFrance. Lock Haven again scored seven straight to tie the ball game 18-18. Hatajik answered with a layup, but the Bald Eagles hit a three to take the lead. They'd score two more buckets to make the lead 25-20 in Lock Haven's favor. The Huskies had Maynard score four points, all from free throws, to make the lead to two. After a score from Hatajik, Lock Haven continued to put points on the board, ending the half 32-25. 

Second Half:

Lock Haven kept up the momentum by continuing to score throughout the third by building the lead into double digits. The third quarter ended with the Huskies down 46-34. 

The Huskies tried, but could not come back from the Bald Eagles' barrage of free throws and layups, ending the game 69-56.

On the Horizon: 

The Huskies will play their final game of the regular season at Shepherd on Feb. 28. Tip off will be at 1 p.m.
