Men's Basketball Holds On to Win Nail-Biter at Lock Haven, 68-67

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg men's basketball team held on to take down Lock Haven, 68-67, in a nail-biting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest inside the Thomas Fieldhouse on Monday night.

Bloomsburg (6-15, 3-12 PSAC) posted one of its best shooting performances of the season, going 25-for-52 (48.1 percent) from the floor while sinking 10 three-pointers. The Huskies held Lock Haven (5-14, 3-11) to 24-for-64 (37.5 percent) shooting.

Four different Huskies finished with double-digit points, including Ries Naugle (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area). The redshirt-freshman led Bloomsburg with 20 points while going 8-for-27 from the floor. Naugle also contributed seven assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

Kodi Johnson (Folcroft, Pa./Phelps School) recorded a new career-high in points with 19 on 7-for-11 shooting. The freshman went 5-for-6 from beyond the arc while leading the contest in rebounds with eight. Chase Smucker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Gabe Springer (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Wallenpaupack) both finished the game with ten points.

The Bald Eagles got on the board first with Blake Deegan sinking a triple 71 seconds into the contest. It took over two minutes for another basket as Springer took a pass from Courtney Davis II (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) along the baseline for a two-handed slam to pull within one. A layup from Springer just 19 seconds later gave the maroon and gold a 4-3 lead. The two sides traded the lead six times over the next four minutes before a three-pointer from Naugle gave Bloomsburg a 14-10 lead with 12:14 to go in the half.

Naugle, Johnson and Springer combined for 27 of the Huskies' 34 points in the first half as Bloomsburg took a 34-28 lead going into halftime.

Lock Haven cut the lead to just three-pointer off a successful and-one to start the half. The maroon and gold responded with eight unanswered points to push its advantage to 42-31. Lock Haven surged back within one possession of the lead halfway through the frame before the Huskies extended its lead yet again. With 2:25 left in the game, Johnson sank a three-pointer to give Bloomsburg a 68-59 lead.

The following possession for Lock Haven saw a tip-in layup from Devon Nelson to cut the lead to seven. Keith Warren made a free throw to move the game within two possessions before a dunk from Nelson with 88 seconds remaining moved the Huskies' lead to just four. A late offensive foul gave possession back to the Bald Eagles and lead to a Deegan draining a corner three to bring the home team back within one.

The ensuing possession saw Bloomsburg turn the ball over and end up back in the corner with Deegan. The Lock Haven guard faked a three before stepping in for a wide-open jumper to try and win it at the buzzer. Deegan's shot rattled around the rim before falling away as the Huskies survived, 68-67, on the road.

Bloomsburg is back in action on Wednesday as they host East Stroudsburg at 7:30 p.m.
