BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg women's basketball team lost to East Stroudsburg 76-73 in a tightly contested match up.
The team made 22 out of 50 shots from the field (44%), including five three-pointers.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) earned a double-double, scoring 19 points and collected 12 rebounds.
Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) also scored 19 points, shooting 80% (four-for-five) from beyond the arc.
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) scored 10 points and had eight rebounds.
Leah Kale (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) and
Lex Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) rounded out the starters by scoring four points and two points respectively.
From the bench,
Olivia Selverian (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) scored a career high in points with 11.
Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) scored four points,
Sophia Shults (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area) scored two and
Carleigh Anderson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had two.
First Half:
Maynard started the scoring for the Huskies with a layup. She then stole the ball from the Warriors to set up an and-1 for Leszcynski. After another score from Maynard, the lead was up to 7-0. Selverian made her presence known with a good jumper plus the foul. After a Kale three-pointer, the quarter ended 20-14 in the Huskies' favor.
Bloomsburg entered the quarter up by eight with a pair of free throws from Leszcynski. With 4:50 left in the game, Maynard scored a layup to make the game 24-18. East Stroudsburg then went on a 13-0 run to put themselves up by seven with 2:44 left in the half. Anderson then scored a good jumper and Leszcynski added a three to make it a one-point game. East Stroudsburg then hit a jumper, but Leszcynski drained another three-point bucket to tie the game 35-35. The first half ended 36-35 in East Stroudsburg's favor.
Second Half:
Maynard opened the second half with an and-1 to shift the energy back to Bloomsburg. Both teams shared buckets until Leszcynski hit back-to-back threes to put the Huskies up 46-44. They relied heavily on free throws in this quarter, making 10 out of 10 free throws to make the lead 56-49. East Stroudsburg battled back and went on a 10-0 run to end the third with the Warriors up 59-56.
Hatajik started off with two straight layups to make the Warriors' lead 61-60. Hatajik continued her scoring by making two free throws and a good layup to keep it a one-point game. Bloomsburg was down 72-66 with 1:13 left in regulation, but the Huskies weren't finished yet. Maynard would score a layup, but the Warriors retaliated with a free throw. Selverian would go coast-to-coast to make it a 73-70 game with 43 seconds left. With Leszcynski, Ferguson and Shults all fouling out of the game, Bloomsburg was unable to battle back and lost 76-73.
