BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The fourth seed Bloomsburg women's basketball team prepares to face the fifth seed Shepherd Rams in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.
The Huskies will enter the tournament with a regular season record of 15-13 (11-10 PSAC) while Shepherd enters the tournament with a record of 11-15 (9-12 PSAC).
Bloomsburg vs. Shepherd History
The Huskies and Rams split their regular season series, each winning once. Shepherd took the first game, winning 56-51 with
Kelly Leszcynski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) being the Huskies' leading scorer with 10.
Bloomsburg took the second game, winning 67-66 in the season finale. The Huskies were down by 15 points at one point during this game, but a fourth-quarter rally gave the Huskies a last-second win. Four Huskies scored in the double digits with
Maddie LaFrance (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) leading the way with 20 points while shooting 50% from deep.
The Huskies are 7-6 against Shepherd since the 2019-2020 season when the Rams joined the PSAC.
The last time these teams faced each other in the tournament was in 2022 where Shepherd took the victory 76-53.
Huskies to Watch
Leszcynski scored 10 points in the first game and 12 points in the second against the Rams. She averaged 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the series. She also set up the last-minute 7-0 run in the second game with three steals, two assists and the go-ahead bucket to secure the victory.
Alison Hatajik (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg) was the leading scorer for the Huskies all season, averaging 11 points-per-game. She also led the team in rebounds, averaging 7.4. She averaged three points in the Shepherd series, but the Rams cannot count out Bloomsburg's leading scorer.
Maddison Maynard (Lansford, Pa./Panther Valley) averaged nine points in the series and had seven rebounds in each of their match ups. She has been on a surge lately as she scored 22 points against the #1 seed Lock Haven on Feb. 25.
LaFrance just scored 20 points on Shepherd in the season finale. The redshirt senior has also been playing well since rejoining the starting lineup, averaging 14.3 points in the last three games.
