JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Bloomsburg baseball team shut out Pitt-Johnstown, 5-0 in a non-conference matchup at Point Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.

Grant Russo (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) and
Justin Weaver (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) each notched multiple hits for Bloomsburg (11-6). Weaver led the Huskies, going 3-for-5 from the plate and tallying three RBIs. Russo went 2-for-4 on the day with two runs and an RBI. The maroon and gold drew ten walks throughout the contest.

Bloomsburg put a pair of runners on early, as Russo and
Matt Freda (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional) were each hit by the first pitches of their at-bats to start the game. The pair pulled off a double steal to move both into scoring position, setting up
Drew Balestrini (Sunbury, Pa./Shikellamy) for a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.

The Huskies' pitching staff held off Pitt-Johnstown (10-14) to keep momentum on its side. Starting pitcher
Steve Martin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) put in a strong performance during his time on the mound, including a second inning that saw the freshman strikeout the side on 14 pitches.

Despite several chances throughout the contest, the next run would not come until the top of the seventh when Russo led off the inning with a home run over the left-centerfield wall. With the bases loaded later in the frame,
Justin Weaver (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) sent a two-RBI single to left field to advance the Huskies' lead to 4-0.

Weaver brought one more run across the plate in the ninth, sending another single to left field to score
Anthony Trommer (Trevose, Pa./Neshaminy).

Steve Martin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) pitched four hitless innings to start the game for Bloomsburg while striking out four.
Brian Walsh (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) picked up his first win of the season, tossing two innings of relief with a four punchouts of his own. Overall, the Huskies combined for 11 strikeouts and just three hits.

Bloomsburg returns to PSAC action on Friday, March 27 as they travel to Shippensburg for a double header. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
