Women's Tennis Opens PSAC East Action with Sweep of Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team opened PSAC East play in dominant fashion on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Shippensburg, 7-0, in both teams' conference opener at the Burt Reese Tennis Center.

The Huskies (8-3, 1-0 PSAC East) set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with authority, dropping just four total games across the three matches. The duos of Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College)/Lily Sierka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) and Macarena Arisio (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/SEADEA)/Sarah Buck (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) each delivered 6-0 shutouts at No. 2 and No. 3 while the pairing of Dasha Nakonechna (Spain/IOC) and Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School) secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles to complete the sweep.

Bloomsburg carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six flights to secure the shutout victory. Lily Sierka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) was first off the court with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, extending the Huskies' lead. Ilkovic followed with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at the top flight, and McDonald added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 to keep the pressure on the Raiders.

The middle and lower portions of the lineup continued to deliver steady performances. Arisio controlled her match at No. 5 with a 6-4, 6-4 win, and Buck closed out a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 6. Nakonechna provided the day's most dramatic moment at No. 3, bouncing back from a first-set loss to rally for a 0-6, 6-2, 7-5 win, highlighting Bloomsburg's resilience across the lineup.

The Huskies return to action Thursday to face West Chester at 2:00 p.m. in West Chester to continue PSAC East action.
