Henry Returns to Bloomsburg as Defensive Coordinator

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Head Coach Frank Sheptock and the Bloomsburg football team have announced the return of Deon Henry as the program's defensive coordinator, bringing more than two decades of coaching experience and a proven track record of developing impactful defenses across the Division II and Division III levels.
 
Henry returns to Bloomsburg after previously serving on the Huskies' staff from 2023-25 as the defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator, and recruiting coordinator. During his initial stint, he played a key role in defensive game planning, recruiting operations, and student-athlete development both on and off the field.

Most recently, Henry coached at Eastern University, where he served as the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator. In that role, he developed and implemented game plans, produced detailed scouting reports, and helped build a startup Division III program while mentoring student-athletes and contributing to community outreach initiatives.
 
Henry's coaching résumé includes defensive coordinator experience at Post University, where he helped establish a Division II program while overseeing defensive strategy, recruiting, and program operations. His background also includes stops at The College of New Jersey and Rowan University, where he contributed to multiple conference championships, NCAA playoff appearances, and nationally ranked defensive units.
 
Throughout his career, Henry has earned national and conference recognition for both his coaching impact and service to the game. He was the recipient of the 2025 AFCA-MAC Service Award and was named a finalist for the American Football Coaches Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017. He also participated in the prestigious NFL-NCAA Coaches Academy in 2016, further highlighting his standing within the profession.
 
Henry's impact is most evident in the success of the players and units he has developed. He has coached 19 all-conference selections across multiple leagues, along with a USA College Football All-American and a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area honoree. His teams have reached the NCAA playoffs four times and have captured or shared four conference championships, demonstrating sustained success at multiple stops.
 
Defensively, Henry has been part of units that consistently ranked among the best in the country. At Rowan, his secondary helped produce 45 interceptions between 2012-15, including multiple pick-sixes, while the defense finished with national rankings in total defense and interceptions. The Profs led the NJAC in key categories such as scoring defense, total defense, pass efficiency defense, and red zone defense during his tenure, establishing a reputation for aggressive, disciplined play.
 
More recently at Eastern, Henry's special teams units ranked among the top in Division III, finishing fourth nationally in blocked kicks while ranking among the nation's leaders in punt return defense. His units allowed zero blocked kicks and punts while consistently controlling field position, underscoring his attention to detail and situational coaching.
 
In addition to his coaching accomplishments, Henry brings extensive leadership experience, having served more than 15 years in law enforcement, including as a sergeant and SWAT team leader with the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
 
A U.S. Navy veteran, Henry holds a master's degree in health and exercise science with a concentration in sports psychology from California University of Pennsylvania. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Administration of Law from Thomas Edison State University.
 
Henry's return to Bloomsburg reunites the Huskies with a familiar leader whose experience, proven success, and ability to develop high-performing defensive units are expected to make an immediate impact.
