Women's Tennis Ends PSAC Tournament Run with Semifinal Loss to IUP

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Bloomsburg women's tennis team saw its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament run come to an end as it fell to top-seeded IUP in the conference semifinals on Friday afternoon.
 
The Crimson Hawks jumped ahead to an early lead in doubles, taking the No. 3 match 6-0 against Lia-Sophie Seele (Mülheim, NRW, Germany/Luisenschule) and Jen McDonald (Melbourne, Australia/Brentwood Secondary College). IUP clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 victory in No. 3 doubles over Lily Sierka (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) and Macarena Arisio (San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina/SEADEA).
 
Maria Moskaltsova picked up the first singles victory for the Crimson Hawks at No. 3 singles, defeating Dasha Nakonechna (Spain/IOC), 6-2, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, Lea von Kozierowski made it 3-0 for IUP with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nicole Ilkovic (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy High School).
 
The Crimson Hawks clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Ifigeneia Kafka over Arisio in the No.5 singles bout.
 
At No. 2 singles, Seele fell 6-1 in the opening set before taking a 3-2 lead in the second before the match was called. Sierka battled closely in 6-4 opening set loss in the No. 4 match and was behind 3-2 in the second set before the match was clinched.
 
The Huskies sit at 15-6 overall and are ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic Region. Bloomsburg will learn its NCAA Regional fate on Monday during the selection show at 8 p.m.
