WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bloomsburg men's tennis team defeated the University of the District of Columbia 5-2 in their first dual of the season.
Doubles:
The Huskies won the doubles starting with the duo of
Jaime Soria (Pamplona, Spain/Liceo Monjardin) and
Alejandro Higuera (Ciudad Obregon, Mexico/Colegio Weston) winning the top flight 7-5.
Ryder Fink (Cogan Station, Pa./Jersey Shore) and
Nicolas Mustea (Bonn, Germany/Friedrich-Ebert Gymnasium Bonn) swept their competition 6-0 to secure the doubles victory for Bloomsburg.
Yannick Gyomlay (Wettingen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Baden) and
Fran Hernandez (Malloraca, Spain/La Salle Palma) were also featured and won by retirement.
Singles:
The top flight had
Denis Dementev (Saint-Petersburg, Russia/Russian Gymnasium at the State Russian Museum) win 6-0, 6-3 to earn Bloomsburg's second point of the afternoon. Higuera took his second victory after winning the second flight 6-2, 6-1. Gyomlay also earned another victory by taking the fourth flight 7-5, 6-2.Â
The match ended with Bloomsburg on top 5-2Â with Mustea earning a victory via retirement.Â
On the Horizon:
The Huskies will participate in the Dynamic Duo Tournament at the Burt Reese Tennis Center on Sept. 26 and 27. Both events will start at 10 a.m.Â
