Volleyball Falls in a Five-Set Match Against Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg volleyball team faced defeat against Kutztown in five sets. 

Lena Jones (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) led the Huskies in kills with 16, Abigail Eagler (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) had 14 and Katie Kuehl (Aston, Pa./Archmere Academy (Del.)) rounded the match with 13. Sara Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom Area) led the team with assists with 30 while Jessica Rimbo (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) had 23.

The Sets:

Kutztown took an early lead in the set, giving themselves a 5-0 lead. The Huskies came back quickly thanks to an ace from Sasha Moody (Abington, PA/Abington Senior) and kills from Sophie Wales (Port Matilda, Pa./State College). The momentum kept shifting back and forth in the contest with multiple ties. Kutztown then pulled away in the end of the game by securing the first set 25-20.

Bloomsburg fired back in the second set with multiple kills from the freshman duo of Eagler and Jones. The Huskies pulled to 11-7 lead at one point, but the Golden Bears swarmed back tying the game 12-12. Both opponents traded blows with each other, tying the game up multiple times on the race to 25. With the match tied 22-22, Bloomsburg pulled away with the set victory 25-23 with kills coming from Wales.

The third set was similar to the second as both teams were desperate to gain the advantage. With the game tied 17-17, Bloomsburg took the 2-1 lead by pulling away 25-19 with kills from Moody and Kuehl.

The fourth set featured the Golden Bears playing desperate. Bloomsburg leapt to a quick 13-9 lead, but Kutztown once again tied the game back up 13-13. The Golden Bears could not be stopped and forced a fifth set by winning 25-19. 

In the final set, Bloomsburg found themselves with a 12-9 lead entering the final moments of the game. The Golden Bears then went on a 6-1 run and won the match 15-13. 

On the Horizon:

The Huskies will travel to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania to play the Raiders on Sept. 25. The match will start at 6 p.m.
