FROSTBURG, Md. – The eighth-ranked Bloomsburg men's soccer team erased a halftime deficit with a strong start to the second half before Frostburg State scored late to claim a 2-1 nonconference victory Wednesday night at Bobcat Stadium.
The Huskies (2-1) controlled the early stages of the second half and pulled even in the 66th minute on Andrew Beagle's (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) second goal of the season. Conner Fedorko (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Spring) provided the assist for his first point of the year.
Bloomsburg nearly found an equalizer twice during the opening 20 minutes. Logan Savage (Bensalem, Pa./Archbishop Wood) sent the Huskies' first attempt wide in the 16th minute before Caleb Sitler (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) narrowly missed less than three minutes later.
Frostburg State (2-0-1) broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute when Nate Kennedy converted a pass from Inzaghi Harmon. The Huskies' defense prevented the Bobcats from extending their advantage before halftime, with goalkeeper Ryan Moroney (Blackwood, N.J./Sterling) making saves on Harmon and Spencer Davis.
Bloomsburg emerged from the break on the front foot and produced three shots over the opening 10 minutes. Owen Hollobaugh (State College, Pa./State College) fired wide just 11 seconds into the period, Sitler had an attempt blocked in the 48th minute and Zayd DeVeaux (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) forced goalkeeper Josiah Emerson to make a save in the 55th.
The Huskies' sustained pressure paid off at the 65:22 mark. Fedorko helped create the scoring opportunity before Beagle delivered the tying goal to bring Bloomsburg level at 1-1.
The Bloomsburg defense continued to hold firm after the equalizer. Moroney stopped David Williams' attempt in the 68th minute, while Alexander Hess followed with a shot at the opposite end less than a minute later.
Kennedy scored the deciding goal for Frostburg State in the 82nd minute off an assist from Dominic Good.
The evenly contested match featured just a one-shot difference, with Frostburg State holding a 9-8 advantage. Bloomsburg generated five of its eight attempts after halftime and surrendered only three corner kicks. Moroney finished with three saves.
Beagle has scored twice through the Huskies' first three matches, while Fedorko became the seventh Bloomsburg player to record an assist this season.
Bloomsburg returns home Saturday to face Goldey-Beacom in a nonconference match at 3:30 p.m. at Steph Pettit Stadium.
