1991-92 Women's Basketball Game-by-Game Recap
Game 30: Bloomsburg 50, North Dakota 79 -- March 13
In the NCAA South Atlantic Regional game in Norfolk, Virginia, the Huskies took on North Dakota but were unable to continue the season as they fell by a final score of 79-50. Bulka led the offense with 12 points and Maguire grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the loss.
Game 29: Bloomsburg 70, Edinboro 40 -- March 7
In the PSAC Championships title game, Bloomsburg was matched-up against Edinboro. The Huskies coasted to a 70-40 victory for their first ever PSAC Championship. The ruthless defense of Bloomsburg caused the Fighting Scots to commit 24 turnovers while Simons led the offense with 18 points and Maguire pulled down a game-high 11 boards.
Game 28: Bloomsburg 79, Clarion 75 -- March 6
In their first round game of the PSAC Championships, Bloomsburg was matched-up against Western Division champion Clarion. The Huskies had come up empty in the previous three games against the Golden Eagles but were able to defeat Clarion on their home court, 79-75. Simons exploded for a 32 point performance and also led the team with nine rebounds.
Game 27: Bloomsburg 83, Millersville 67 -- February 29
In the regular season finale, Bloomsburg downed Millersville, defeating the Marauders 83-67 to finish the regular season 20-7. Simons scored a game-high 22 points for the Huskies, while Maguire and Bell both grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
Game 26: Bloomsburg 82, Mansfield 41 -- February 26
The Huskies easily handled Mansfield, doubling up the Mountaineers, 82-41 in their third consecutive home game. Maguire led the offense with 22 points and also tied with Bell for the game-high in rebounds with eight.
Game 25: Bloomsburg 70, Pitt-Johnstown 78 -- February 22
Bloomsburg welcomed Pitt-Johnstown (22-3) into the Nelson Field House for an eastern powerhouse match-up. Down 40-28 at halftime, Bloomsburg’s second half comeback was once again cut short as the Huskies were ousted 78-70. Simons led the scoring attack with 20 points, while Kathy Maguire grabbed a team-high 13 boards.
Game 24: Bloomsburg 81, Kutztown 56 -- February 19
The Huskies rebounded from the loss when they beat Kutztown for the third time, 81-56. Bell led all scorers with 20 and Kathy Maguire contributed 19 in the victory. Simons pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds for Bloomsburg.
Game 23: Bloomsburg 55, West Chester 63 -- February 15
In their sixth consecutive road game, Bloomsburg travelled to West Chester in a match-up that would decide the regular season Eastern Division champion. Down 32-17 at halftime, Bloomsburg mounted a comeback that was cut short as the Golden Rams were crowned regular season champions after their 63-55 win, landing Bloomsburg in second place the Eastern Division.
Game 22: Bloomsburg 74, Cheyney 51 -- February 12
Bloomsburg remained on the road as they travelled to Cheyney where they defeated the Wolves, 74-51. Simons led the Huskies in points with 23 and rebounds with six.
Game 21: Bloomsburg 72, East Stroudsburg 54 -- February 8
In their fourth consecutive PSAC road game, the Huskies knocked-off East Stroudsburg by a final score of 71-56. Simons again led Bloomsburg in scoring with 18 and Bell brought down a team-high 15 rebounds.
Game 20: Bloomsburg 69, Mansfield 57 -- February 5
The Huskies bumped their winning streak to three games with a 69-57 win over the Mountaineers of Mansfield behind Simons’ game-high 20 points and Bell’s 11 rebounds. With just a one point lead at halftime, Vicki Bell scored the second half’s first four points en route to the win.
Game 19: Bloomsburg 98, Indiana (Pa.) 90 2OT -- February 1
Bloomsburg avenged an earlier loss to Indiana (Pa.) by scoring a season-high 98 points to defeat the Indians 98-90. Michelle Simons found herself atop the scoring sheet with 32 points and Kathy Maguire pulled down a team-high nine rebounds in the win.
Game 18: Bloomsburg 57, Kutztown 46 -- January 29
The Huskies took on Kutztown for the second time in the season at Kutztown. After trailing by two at halftime, Bloomsburg rallied for a 57-46 victory over the Golden Bears behind Vicki Bell’s game-high 14 points and Kathy Maguire’s 11 rebounds.
Game 17: Bloomsburg 72, West Chester 78 -- January 25
After a 12 point halftime deficit, a second half rally by Bloomsburg was cut short as West Chester held off Bloomsburg for a 78-72 win. Michelle Simons was again at the top of the scoring charts with a team-high 23 points, while Maguire and Vicki Bell had nine rebounds apiece.
Game 16: Bloomsburg 75, Cheyney 50 -- January 22
After forcing 29 turnovers, Bloomsburg rolled to their third-straight win in a 75-50 victory over Cheyney. Michelle Simons led the scoring attack with 17 points and partnered with Bell to lead the team in rebounding with 11 boards.
Game 15: Bloomsburg 64, Millersville 49 -- January 20
The Huskies travelled to Millerville’s Pucillo Gym for their second divisional game. Bloomsburg raced to a 64-49 win with the help of Kathy Maguire’s 20 points and Michelle Simons’ 11 rebounds to improve the team’s record to 11-4.
Game 14: Bloomsburg 71, East Stroudsburg 56 -- January 18
Bloomsburg hosted East Stroudsburg for their Eastern Division opener which saw the Huskies turn a 15 point halftime lead into a 71-56 win. Michelle Simons continued her torrid pace with 24 points, while Bulka contributed 19 points in the win. Bell led Bloomsburg with 11 rebounds.
Game 13: Bloomsburg 69, Shippensburg 64 -- January 15
After being down six at halftime, the Huskies rallied to defeat Shippensburg, 69-64. Vicki Bell led Bloomsburg with 20 points on 10-of-19 shooting and also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Game 12: Clarion 94, Bloomsburg 84 -- January 13
After Clarion defeated the Huskies in the PSAC Championship and NCAA Eastern Regional game the previous season, Bloomsburg again was dismissed by the undefeated Golden Eagle, 94-84. Simons led all scorers with 28 points, while Kathy Maguire had a team-high eight rebounds.
Game 11: Bloomsburg 96, Slippery Rock 80 -- January 11
Bloomsburg rallied behind Simons’ 23 points and 10 rebounds to knock-off Slippery Rock, 96-80. Kathy Maguire shot 15-of-18 from the field for 30 points to lead all scorers.
Game 10: Adelphi 65, Bloomsburg 60 -- January 9
For the first time in the season, Bloomsburg would drop their second straight game as Adelphi defeated the Huskies, 65-60. Simons scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, both of which were good for team-highs.
Game 9: Philadelphia Textile 65, Bloomsburg 63 -- January 4
The Huskies returned to the court for the first game of 1992 in a match-up against Philadelphia Textile. Bloomsburg was edged, 65-63, as Philadelphia Textile handed the Huskies their second loss of the season. Simons again led the Huskies in scoring with 25 points and 10 boards.
Game 8: Bloomsburg 76, California (Pa.) 65 -- December 15
Bloomsburg rebounded to beat PSAC Western Division rival California (Pa.), 76-65. Michelle Simons scored a season-high 37 points and again led the Huskies on the boards with 13 rebounds.
Game 7: Indiana (Pa.) 79, Bloomsburg 69 -- December 7
The Huskies took on Indiana (Pa.) in the championship game of the Bloomsburg Invitational riding a six-game winning streak. Bloomsburg was held to just 35 percent shooting from the field and fell to Indiana (Pa.) 79-69 for their first loss of the season.
Game 6: Bloomsburg 92, Bloomfield 76 -- December 6
Bloomsburg would return home to host their own tournament, the Bloomsburg Invitational, which featured Bloomfield, Cheyney and Indiana (Pa.). The Huskies cruised to a 92-76 victory over Bloomfield in the first round. Simons scored a game-high 30 points and also led the Huskies in rebounding with 12 boards.
Game 5: Bloomsburg 95, Dowling 61 -- December 4
After the road win against Southampton, Bloomsburg remained the visitors against Dowling and continued to rack up the points as five players scored in double figures in the 95-61 win. Senior Kathy Maguire led the offensive attack with 19 points and Bell continued her work on the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds. Through the first five games of the season, the Huskies had out-scored their opponents by 122 points, 398-276.
Game 4: Bloomsburg 78, Southampton 56 -- December 2
The Huskies hit the road to Long Island, N.Y. for a game against Southampton. Bell led the Huskies in scoring with 13 points and rebounding with 12 boards in Bloomsburg’s 78-56 win.
Game 3: Bloomsburg 91, Delaware Valley 49 -- November 26
In their third game of the season and home opener, Bloomsburg held Delaware Valley to 49 points on 23 percent shooting in a 91-49 rout which would be the largest margin of victory of the 1991-92 season. Bulka led all scorers with 16 points and Simons and Bell each grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Game 2: Bloomsburg 62, Kutztown 52 -- November 23
The win against Adelphi propelled Bloomsburg to the title game of the tournament against host Kutztown. The Huskies defeated the Golden Bears, 62-52, despite having Michelle Simons foul out with 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Bulka continued her scoring with 14 points, while Bell scored a game-high 19 points en route to the title.
Game 1: Bloomsburg 72, Adelphi 58 -- November 22
The Huskies began the 1991-1992 season with a four-team tournament at Kutztown University that included Adelphi, LeMoyne and the Golden Bears. Bloomsburg opened its season with a 72-58 victory over Adelphi. Sophomore Careen Bulka scored a game-high 15 points in her first career start, while junior center Vicki Bell scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
