Eric Peterson joined the Huskies for his first season in 2022 as the graduate assistant pitching coach and will enter his second season wth Bloomsburg in 2023.
During his first season with the Huskies, he helped guide Jared Marshman to a historic season that saw the right-hander finish the year tied for the third lowest earned run average (1.81) in the nation. Under Peterson's guidance, Marshman recorded the third most wins (nine) in a single season, the sixth most strikeouts (71), and the sixth lowest ERA (1.81) in program history.
Peterson began his coaching career in 2018 with the Neumann University Knights, contributing to the improvement of the pitching staff in several areas. The staff recorded the lowest conference earned run average (ERA) since 2013 with a 3.63 ERA, and stood atop the conference in walk rate and on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .686.
In 2019 he joined USA Baseball as a Baseball Operations Intern for the Prospect Development Pipeline. He was responsible for executing athletic assessments at amateur showcases and events across the country with OptoJump (CMJ, 30-yard sprint) and Rapsodo. Events included the regional and national East Coast Pro Showcase, the Prospect Development Pipeline League, the Cape Cod Baseball League, and the USA Women’s National Baseball team tryout.
In 2020, he was a 4th Coach and Pro Scout in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system.
Due to COVID-19, the 2020 season was eliminated and he worked the season in video scouting. He participated in a one-week scout school learning about the evaluation process in professional baseball from front office staff.
Prior to his coaching career, he played at Temple University for two seasons. He was voted to the 2013 All-Big 5 Team and named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week for throwing a complete-game one-hitter against LaSalle University.
After the Temple University program was cut and eliminated, he transferred to North Carolina State University and became a staple in the back end of the Wolfpack bullpen. Over 20 appearances, he pitched 56 innings with a 3.21 ERA, 63 strikeouts, and a 1.05 WHIP.
In 2014, he was drafted 1st overall in the 37th round by the Houston Astros. He played four seasons of minor league baseball, culminating with 35 appearances and 67 innings at the AA-level for the Corpus Christi Hooks.
