Josh Stewart will serve as a volunteer assistant for the Bloomsburg University baseball team in 2018. Stewart spent the last four years (2014-17) as an assistant coach at Bloomsburg Area High School.
He spent three years, from 2005-08, as an assistant coach at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. While there, he served as the hitting coach and worked with the outfielders.
During his playing career at Hofstra University (2002-05), Stewart played in 147 games and compiled 194 hits, 50 doubles, eight triples, 17 home runs, 146 runs scored, 83 RBI, 50 stolen bases, and a .333 batting average. His 50 doubles rank second all-time at Hofstra and he ranks fourth in stolen bases. As a senior, Stewart served as a team captain and led the squad with a .347 average, 60 runs scored, 77 hits, 23 doubles, and 25 stolen bases. He earned Second Team American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-East Region and All-Colonial Athletic Association accolades following his senior season. After graduating from Hofstra, Stewart signed to play professional baseball with the Evansville Otters of the Independent Frontier League for two seasons (2005-06).
Stewart began his collegiate career at St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York (2000-02), where he batted .284 in 35 games as a freshman in 2001. He redshirted his second season due to injury and then transferred to Hofstra in the fall of 2002.
In the summer of 2001, he played for the Geneva Redlegs of the New York Collegiate Baseball League before playing for the Susquehanna Valley Tornadoes of the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate League in the summer of 2002. Stewart has also played for the Lenoir Oilers of the Southern Collegiate Baseball League and was a 2003 SCBL All-Tournament selection. During the summer of 2004, he played for the Asheboro Copperheads of the Coastal Plain League and batted .298 with 30 runs and a team-high 20 stolen bases.
A native of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Stewart was an Honorable Mention All-State selection as a senior at Bloomsburg Area High School. Along with his bachelor's degree in psychology from Hofstra University in 2005, he also holds a Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling from Bloomsburg University in 2012.
He currently resides in Bloomsburg with his wife Rachel, daughter Jaxynn (4), and son Bryse (2).
