Bloomsburg Athletics

Nikki Hartranft is in her 16th season as Bloomsburg's field hockey head coach in 2025.

In her first 15 seasons with the Huskies, Hartranft has guided the program to a 168-100 overall record and a 80-59 mark against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponents in addition to two PSAC Championships and one appearance in the NCAA Finals (2010). Hartranft has also led the team to a postseason berth in 11 seasons.

Hartranft was inducted into the Bloomsburg Athletics Hall of Fame in October of 2024 for her time on the field as a Husky.

2024 saw another successful season under the guidance of Hartranft, as the Huskies made the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2011. Bloomsburg finished with a 15-6 overall record while boasting a 6-3 record in conference play. The maroon and gold made it to the semifinals of the PSAC tournament as well. Aydan McFarland, Kara Koch, Meg Barnard and Jackie Nevel each earned All-PSAC honors in 2024. The Huskies spent the entirety of the 2024 season ranked by the NFHCA and finished the season ranked fifth. Aydan McFarland ended the season with a NFHCA All-America First Team distinction.

In 2023, Hartranft led the Huskies to a 14-5 overall record and a 5-4 slate in the PSAC. The Huskies made back-to-back trips to the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals last year. Bloomsburg spent most of the year ranked by the NFCHA and reached as high as #4 in Division II field hockey. Individually, Bella Culp, Aydan McFarland, Genna Bush, Emily Swineford, Meg Barnard, and Jackie Nevel were honored as All-PSAC athletes while Bush was named the Freshman of the Year. Coach Hartranft earned her third PSAC Coach of the Year honor and first since 2011.

Culp and McFarland went on to earned NFHCA All-American status as a pair of second team honorees. Culp also earned a College Sports Communicators Third Team At-Large Academic All-American honor in the spring.

In 2022, she guided the Huskies to the PSAC Quarterfinals and Bloomsburg finished the year with an even 9-9 record overall, and the team landed four players on the PSAC All-Conference Teams following the regular season. Meg Barnard represented the Huskies on the First Team, and Meghan Longenhagen, Carlee Williams and Abby Shaffer earned a spot on the Second Team. 

After getting back to the field in 2021 following the postponement of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, the Huskies finished the season with a modest 8-10 record and closed out the season with a 5-1 victory over Mercyhurst. Under the guidance of Hartranft, three Huskies were selected to All-PSAC teams as seniors Foto Tsioles and Kristen Robinson joined sophomore Alicia Carr on the post-season team. 

In 2019, Tsioles enjoyed a breakout campaign by scoring a team-high eight goals and 17 points to earn All-PSAC Third Team accolades. The young Huskies won seven games and made a late-season push for the final postseason spot in the conference tournament before being eliminated on the final day of the regular season. Bloomsburg went 3-4 in overtime games with one of its victories coming in double overtime at then-#3 Millersville to keep the Huskies' late-season playoff hopes alive.

Bloomsburg won 11 games in 2018 and advanced to the PSAC quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive time - and eighth in nine seasons - before bowing at then-#4 Shippensburg in overtime to end its season. The Huskies had five players earn All-Conference honors - Tali Wehner, Erica Krebs, Jackie Shragher, Tesa Hoffman, and Dana Sheply - with Wehner going on to earn Second Team All-American accolades from both Synpase Sports and Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The program also had 17 members on the NFHCA National Academic Squad with Hoffman, Shragher, Cheyenne Ott, Sydney Rimmer, and Annie Klinger collecting Scholar of Distinction honors.

The Huskies finished 10-9 with a 6-4 mark in the PSAC in 2017, advancing to the tournament quarterfinals. Three Huskies were named to the All-PSAC Second Team in Geneka and Makenna Mahan as well as Tali Wehner. Wehner was also named a Second Team All-American by Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and by Synapse Sports.

In the classroom, Bloomsburg was one of 27 schools across the country to earn a National Academic Team award from the NFHCA for having a team GPA of 3.0 or better. Eleven players were named to the Division II National Academic Squad while Jackie Shragher and Tesa Hoffman earned Scholar of Distinction honors for having a GPA of 3.90 or better.

In 2016, the Huskies finished the season with a 12-7 overall record and advanced to the PSAC quarterfinals. Six players earned All-PSAC honors - Sam Peters (First Team), Eleanor Kirby (Second Team), Lindsay Cassel (Second Team), Wehner (Second Team), Alexis Carroll (Third Team), and Ali McKay (Third Team) - while Peters (First Team), Cassel (Second Team), and Kirby (Second Team) garnered All-American honors from Longstreth/NFHCA. McKay collected All-Rookie Team honors from Synapse Sports.

That season, Bloomsburg was one of 29 schools across the country to earn a National Academic Team award from the NFHCA for having a team GPA of 3.0 or better. Sixteen players were named to the Division II National Academic Squad while four claimed Scholar of Distinction honors for having a GPA of 3.90 or better.

Following the conclusion of the 2015 season, Cassel (Second Team), Peters (Third Team), and Carroll (Third Team) were honored with All-PSAC accolades while Cassel was also named a Second Team All-American from Longstreth/NFHCA. Bloomsburg enjoyed success off the field as well as it was one of 27 programs in Division II to have a team GPA of 3.0 or better. Thirteen players were named to the Division II National Academic Squad while four of those were honored with Division II Scholars of Distinction for having a GPA of 3.90 or better.

The Huskies finished 2013 with a 13-7 overall record and went 7-3 in the PSAC, again reaching the PSAC Tournament. In the conference playoffs, the Huskies defeated IUP, 2-0, in the first round before falling, 1-0, to eventual national champion and No. 1-ranked Shippensburg in the conference semifinals. Following the season six Huskies were named All-PSAC while senior defender Jaclyn Beasley was honored as a First Team All-American and senior midfielder Samantha Facciolla captured Second Team All-American honors. Bloomsburg enjoyed success in the classroom as well - the Huskies were one of 22 Division II programs to post a team GPA of 3.0 or higher with 14 players earning spots on the NFHCA National Academic Squad with Peters honored as a Scholar of Distinction.

In 2012, Hartranft guided five All-PSAC selections as the Huskies went 14-5 and reached the PSAC Quarterfinals.

In 2011, Hartranft led the Huskies to a 19-1 record and their fourth straight PSAC Championship. The Huskies also made their tenth consecutive NCAA Semifinal appearance. Hartranft guided the Huskies to the nation’s best goals against average (0.54), shutouts per game (0.50), save percentage (0.871), and winning percentage (0.950). For her efforts, Hartranft picked up her second consecutive PSAC Eastern Coach of the Year award.  She also coached three All-Americans, two earning First Team accolades, along with five All-PSAC East selections.  

Hartranft also mentored 11 members of her team to the SGI/NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Squad for having cumulative GPA’s of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

In her first season as head coach with the Huskies, Hartranft guided Bloomsburg to a 19-3 record. The Huskies captured both the PSAC East and overall PSAC championships and advanced to the NCAA national semi-finals. Hartranft also coached three players to All-American honors, while five players earned All-PSAC honors, including Amanda Riley who was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Year.

Before coming to Bloomsburg, Hartranft was the head coach at Alvernia where she led the Crusaders to a two-year record of 22-18 and a berth in the 2009 ECAC playoffs, advancing to the semifinal round. Academically, 10 players from her 2009 squad earned recognition by being named to the SGI/NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad for earning GPAs of 3.3 or higher through the first semester of the 2009-10 academic year.

Hartranft, a 2004 graduate of Bloomsburg, was a standout player for the Huskies helping the team to two NCAA championships and two PSAC titles. The Huskies compiled a record of 73-8 during her time as a player, including a perfect 21-0 record in 2002. She was a three-time All-American and three-time All-PSAC selection. Hartranft is currently tied for 10th all-time in Bloomsburg history with 45 career goals, 11th in assists with 24, and ninth in career points with 114. She was both a Bloomsburg and PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

Hartranft has one daughter, Kadyn.
