Cody Walter

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach

Walter comes from Farmville, VA where he most recently served as an assistant coach at Longwood University, leading the offense and outfielders. Before that he was in Pasadena, California and did a six-year stint of coaching baseball for his alma mater, Providence Christian College.

In his first season on staff, Walter helped Longwood to 23 wins, the most since the 2016 season for the program.

The Lancers also had a trio of Big South All-Conference selections and one player named to the All-Freshman Team. Third baseman Eliot Dix (Big South First Team) and shortstop Gregory Ryan, Jr. (Big South Second Team) along with pitcher Ryan Miller (Big South Honorable Mention) earned all-conference nods. Ethan Walker earned the All-Freshman Team selection.

Ryan had one of the best run-producing seasons in team history. The redshirt senior posted 63 RBI in 2023, the fourth-most in a single season in program history. He led the team in doubles, triples, and homers and was among the top 10 in the Big South in all three categories, as well as in slugging percentage and OPS.

Offensive production at Longwood in the 2024 season saw continued growth. The Lancer offense overall in the Big South ranked 4th in batting average, 3rd in doubles, 2nd in walks, 1st in hit by pitches, 3rd in on-base percentage, and 1st in stolen bases.

Longwood baseball graduate student shortstop Noah Campanelli earned a spot on the 2024 All-Big South Second Team, freshman outfielder Blagen Pado saw his name called for the all-freshman team and senior Hayden Harris received a nod as an honorable mention.

From 2019-2022, Walter was the head baseball coach for the Providence Sea Beggars. Prior, the previous skipper was the assistant baseball coach of the Sea Beggars.

The 2020 season saw the best start in program history for the Sea Beggars, 4-3 before heading into conference play and COVID-19 shutdown. Overall team academics made tremendous improvements. The program GPA went from a 2.45 in the 2018-19 academic year to a 2.98 in the 2019-20 academic year. Fall 2021 saw the best academic performance with a team GPA of 3.1 and finished the year with a 3.0. Providence Baseball produced two Academic All-Americans and 15 All-Academic All-Conference players in the 2020-21 season. The success continued into the 2021 season as Providence made its first California Pacific Conference Tournament appearance. The 2021 season produced: three Academic All-Americans, two Cal Pac All-Academic Team selections, three Cal Pac Scholar-Athletes, one First Team All-Conference selection, one All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, and one All-Defense award winner.

Walter got his Associate of Arts degree in social science from Barstow Community College in 2014 before getting his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies in 2016 from Providence. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Longwood University.Â
