Dr. Kristin Funk Maguire

Bloomsburg University welcomes back Dr. Kristin Funk Maguire (Funk) as she enters in her 19th year as a certified athletic trainer.

Kristin Funk Maguire was a member of the Huskies athletic training staff from July 2013 to May 2018 following three years working at Bucknell University where she was employed as a Geisinger Sports Medicine outsourced athletic trainer.

During her time at Bucknell she worked primarily with football, men’s and women’s cross country, track and field programs and finished this past year working with the baseball team. She was the coordinator for the doctor’s clinic as well as a clinical instructor for several athletic training programs including Shenandoah; Quinnipiac; Lock Haven; and Bloomsburg University.

Funk earned her bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg in 2003 and shortly after obtained a master's degree in exercise science from East Stroudsburg. While pursuing her master's degree she served as an assistant athletic trainer at East Stroudsburg High School South.

While away from Bloomsburg University Funk pursued her Doctor of Athletic Training degree from Moravian University. There she was a student ambassador and is currently serving as their alumni ambassador assisting perspective, current and alumni students in cultivating a healthy and educational community. Additionally, during her hiatus Funk was a per diem athletic trainer with Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute (MSK) covering Bloomsburg University Club sports as well as assisting in event coverage provided by the Geisinger MSK athletic trainers.  Funk assisted fellow colleagues with her Complex Case Clinic where she aids in the care of challenging musculoskeletal injuries utilizing manual therapy.

12 years ago, Funk discovered the art of manual therapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. She has been working on her craft in her own clinical practice and when given the opportunity, teaches fellow clinicians. Funk is currently working toward her certified intergraded manual therapist (CIMT) certification through Great Lakes Seminars where she received most of her manual therapy training.

She currently lives in Bloomsburg with her husband and her two beautiful children, Kai and Kinsley.
