Patrick Alvarez

With the help of Alvarez, the Bloomsburg men's soccer program reached unparalleled heights in 2024. The first year assistant helped the Huskies piece togetherĀ a 15-4-2 campaign for a new program single-season wins record. The season was highlighted by claiming the 2024 PSAC Championship on the grounds of Steph Pettit Stadium for the first conference title in team history with a 2-1 victory over Gannon. Alvarez helped Bloomsburg earn a bid to the 2024 NCAA Tournament, marking the first stretch with consecutive postseason berths in the program's 50-year history. The team success led to the Bloomsburg men's soccer coaching staff being named the United Soccer Coaches Division II Atlantic Region Coaching Staff of the Year. The Huskies additionally received unprecedented individual accolades with three players, Kody Besser, Owen Hollobaugh and Brady Rimple, garnering first-team United Soccer Coaches All-America honors and Patrick Walsh gaining third-team D2CCA All-America status. Bloomsburg matched its program records with six all-region honorees (four first-team, two second-team) and seven All-PSAC honors (five first-team, two second team). In continuation of their successes, Walsh became the first player in program history to be named the PSAC East Defender of the Year while RimpleĀ was crowned the PSAC Tournament MVP for his efforts in goal leading to the PSAC Tournament title. The pair continued tremendous senior campaigns with a pair of College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America nods. RimpleĀ also earned the distinction as theĀ PSAC Scholar Athlete for men's soccer and a spot on the PSAC Fall Top 10 list.Ā 

Alvarez joined the Huskies as a graduate assistant after a two-season stint as an assistant coach at Malone University. Alvarez helped several Pioneers to double-digit point scorers in two years on the coaching staff. Freshman Christian Piccolotto (6 goals, 5 assists) led Malone with 17 points while Colton Fry (4 goals, 2 assists) also reached double figures in 2022. In 2023, Alvarez helped junior Gavin Csiszar (10 goals, 2 assists, 22 points) become the first double-digit goal scorer for the Pioneers since 2019.

Before coaching at Malone, Alvarez began his coaching at the high school level at Canton McKinley High School in 2020.

Alvarez played four seasons at Malone from 2018-2021. Alvarez featured as a defender for the Pioneers, playing 56 career matches with 51 career starts. The Niagara Falls, Ontario native finish his collegiate career with eight goals and two assists. Alvarez was named a honorable mention Great Midwest Conference selection in 2018.

Off the pitch, Alvarez was involved in the Malone Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Alvarez first served as the organization’s event planner in the 2020-21 academic year before serving as the vice president during the 2021-22 year. Alvarez graduated from Malone University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management with a minor in Coaching.
