Shannon Hertz concluded her 12th season as head coach of the Bloomsburg women’s lacrosse team following the 2026 campaign. Hertz owns a 93-93 career record and is the winningest head coach in program history.
Hertz secured her program-record 92nd career victory when the Huskies defeated Shepherd, 17-11, on April 11, 2026, surpassing Sharon O’Keefe’s previous mark of 91 wins. Bloomsburg finished the season 5-12 overall and 3-9 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East play. Under Hertz’s guidance, midfielder Marykate Sitko earned All-PSAC East First Team honors for the second consecutive season after recording 37 goals, 15 assists and 52 points. Sitko was also one of four lacrosse student-athletes to receive College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
The Huskies posted a 7-10 overall record and went 3-9 in the PSAC East during the 2025 season. Bloomsburg opened the year with three consecutive victories over Frostburg State, Jefferson and Georgian Court and later earned conference sweeps of Shippensburg and Shepherd. Sitko led the Huskies with 59 points on 45 goals and 14 assists and earned her first All-PSAC East First Team selection. Six student-athletes earned IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recognition, while the Huskies were named an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad.
In 2024, Hertz guided Bloomsburg to a 10-7 overall record and a 5-7 mark in conference play. The Huskies earned a signature 10-6 victory over No. 17 Mercy and received votes in the final IWLCA Division II poll of the regular season. Bloomsburg led NCAA Division II in caused turnovers per game (15.29) and ground balls per game (25.24). Kayla Stressman was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year, while Madison Coyle earned All-PSAC East First Team honors. Coyle led the Huskies with 54 points, 48 ground balls and 38 caused turnovers.
Over 12 seasons, Hertz has guided Bloomsburg to four PSAC postseason appearances and seven winning seasons. Her teams have recorded four double-digit-win campaigns and earned multiple victories over nationally ranked opponents.
During the 2023 season, the Huskies finished 7-10 overall and 4-7 in conference play. Bloomsburg opened the year with victories over Jefferson, Lock Haven and Indiana (Pa.) and received votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Top 25 during the first month of the campaign. Amanda Stoll earned All-PSAC East Second Team honors after recording 25 goals, nine assists and 34 points.
In 2022, Bloomsburg won six of its first seven contests and defeated No. 12 Mercy, 14-13, at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies finished 10-7, while Erin Gingrich, Erika Biehl and Kelsey Kilgallon earned All-PSAC honors. Biehl and Kilgallon also received IWLCA All-Atlantic Region recognition.
The Huskies reached the PSAC quarterfinals in 2021 and finished 8-6 overall and 7-5 in conference play. Bloomsburg outscored its opponents, 177-144, and eight Huskies earned All-PSAC East honors.
Bloomsburg opened the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season by winning four of five games. The Huskies outscored their opponents, 71-38, and held a 72-44 advantage in draw controls.
In 2019, Hertz guided Bloomsburg to an 11-6 overall record and a 7-5 conference mark. The Huskies climbed as high as No. 20 in the Nike/U.S. Lacrosse national rankings, while six players earned All-PSAC recognition.
The Huskies finished 10-8 and advanced to the PSAC Tournament in 2018. The 10 victories were the program’s most since 2013 and included wins over nationally ranked Millersville and Lock Haven. Bloomsburg posted its first winning season under Hertz in 2017, finishing 9-7.
In her first season at Bloomsburg in 2015, Hertz led the Huskies to an 8-8 record and a PSAC Tournament berth. The season was highlighted by a road victory over No. 13 West Chester.
Hertz came to Bloomsburg after three seasons as an assistant coach at Catholic University of America. She helped the Cardinals earn 36 victories, win two Landmark Conference championships, make two NCAA Tournament appearances and reach the 2012 NCAA regional final.
Before her time at Catholic, Hertz spent two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Lock Haven. She was named the 2009 IWLCA Division II Assistant Coach of the Year after helping the Bald Eagles finish as the national runner-up. Lock Haven also reached the national semifinals in 2010 and won consecutive conference championships.
As a student-athlete, Hertz served as a three-year captain of the Lock Haven women’s lacrosse team. She was a three-time All-PSAC selection, including First Team honors in 2004 and 2005, and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
A graduate of Boyertown High School, Hertz captained the field hockey, basketball and lacrosse teams. She graduated from Lock Haven in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation management.
Hertz and her husband, Matthew, reside in Bloomsburg with their sons, Jackson and Jayden.
