Zach Martin joined the Husky football staff in June of 2024 as the linebackers coach and was named the defensive coordinator in July ahead of the 2024 season.
Martin came to Bloomsburg after a two-year stint at Wheeling University as the Cardinals’ linebackers coach and special teams coordinator from 2022-2024. He was named the recruiting coordinator prior to the 2023 season.
Following the 2022 season, Jason Simon earned his second All-MEC honor and his first First Team accolade. He was among the conference leaders in tackles and solo tackles, finishing in the top 20 in both categories this season. Simon earned an invite to the FBS All-Americans Tropical Bowl and the 2022 FCS Bowl. Jayvon Johnson earned his second All-MEC honor under Martin’s guidance as an honorable mention linebacker. Kick returner Chris Canaday earned All-MEC Second Team honors for his play on special teams. Canaday finished the season with a total of 12 punt returns for 103 yards for an average of 8.83 yards per return. On the kick-off side, Canaday had 19 returns for 489 yards, averaging 25.73 yards per return. Canaday ranked fourth in the conference in punt return yards and fifth in kick return yards as he put together his best season as a returner of his career.
In 2021, Martin's Linebackers set several program records, and both Simon and Johnson earned All-MEC honors under his watch. Johnson and Simon were the team's leading tacklers on the season, with Johnson setting the career total tackle (223), Solo Tackle (129), and Assisted Tackles (94) record. On special teams, the Cardinal's Field Goal unit was one of the best in the conference, with Kicker Matt Greenwood going 13-16 in Field Goal attempts, including kicking a program record 49-yard field goal.
As Recruiting Coordinator, Martin worked closely with the Cardinal's different camps throughout the summer of 2023, with both seeing exponential growth. Martin helped bring over 300 athletes from the surrounding region to campus through the Elite Camp and Friday Night Lights camps. He was also selected to represent Wheeling Football at the 2023 Ohio High School Football Coaches Association (OHFCA) Coaches Clinic.
Prior to Wheeling, Martin served as the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach at SUNY Morrisville from March 2022 to August 2022 where he helped run the team's special teams packages and assisted in training the linebackers for the season.
Martin is no stranger to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) as he spent two years at Clarion University as the interim defensive coordinator, linebackers coach, assistant recruiting coordinator, kickoff team coordinator, and video coordinator.
He also spent a season as the Quality Control coach at Lehigh University from March 2020 to August 2020. Prior to Lehigh University, He spent the 2019 season at #15 ranked Susquehanna University where he coached the Outside Linebackers and helped lead the team to a 10-1 record.
Martin was a linebacker at Susquehanna University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in computer science in December of 2019.
