BU Women's Cross Country Tunes Up for PSAC Championships

Huskies have several nice finishes in final meet before conference championships

BLOOMSBURG-Sophomore Caitlin Heller (Bloomsburg/Indian Valley) (Bloomsburg/Indian Valley) and freshman Michael Hookham (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex High School) led successful finishes by Bloomsburg University runners in a tri-meet with Bucknell University and Susquehanna University, hosted by the Huskies, on Saturday.

Heller was the top Bloomsburg women's finisher coming in at a time of 21:31 on the 5k course. Freshman Meghan McGowan (York/York Catholic) (York/York Catholic) and senior Michelle Jansen (Richmond, TX/Central Bucks South ) (Richmond, TX/Central Bucks South) followed closely with times of 21:34 and 21:37, respectively. Sophomore Patty Hannon (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) (Paramus/Paramus) finished 13th overall with a time of 22:01. Freshman Zoe Wilson (Thorndale/Coatesville) (Thorndale/Coatesville) came in 19th with a time of 22:45 and Joanie Thomas (Pottsville/Pottsville) finished with a time of 23:21, good for 24th. Freshman Meghan Gauntt (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) (Mickleton/Kingsway Regional) rounded out the Huskies top seven, coming in 27th with a time of 23:56.

Hookham was the Huskies top finisher on the men's side, coming in 13th overall with a time of 25:42 on the 7k course. Sophomore Sean Duffy (Newtown/Council Rock South) finished closely behind in the 16th spot with a time of 25:58. Sophomore Zack Sterkenberg (Palmyra/Palmyra Area High School) and freshmen Paul Majikes (Hanover Twp./Holy Redeemer) and Chris Rosato (Coatesville/Coatesville) were Bloomsburg finishers three, four and five with times of 26:18, 26:20 and 26:41, respectively. Sophomores Kevin Grier (Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Connor Showalter (Media/Penncrest High School) rounded out the top seven with times of 27:35 and 27:36, respectively.

The Huskies will head to Edinboro for the PSAC Championships next Saturday, October 31.
