Simonds OT Goal Lifts Bloomsburg Past ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG-- Eric Simonds (Sassamansville/Boyertown) (Sassamansville/Boyertown) penalty kick in overtime lifted the Bloomsburg University men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday night.

Simonds goal past Warrior goalkeeper Larry Pokrwya at the 95:24 mark was the only score in a thrilling game. The penalty kick was set up by a foul in the box on Pokrwya to stop a breakaway. Prior to that the Huskies Jim Griffin (Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) (Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) had a shot cleared off the line that could have given Bloomsburg the win.

East Stroudsburg nearly won it in regulation, but Toric Robinson's shot with just three seconds left in regulation hit the crossbar and sent the game to the extra session.

East Stroudsburg statistically had the edge in the game getting off 28 shots in the first 90 minutes to just 11 for the Huskies, although the Huskies did get off four shots on goal in overtime to none for the Warriors. Bloomsburg goalie David Leiendecker (Easton/Easton) (Easton/Easton) made 12 saves to keep the game scoreless.
