RESULTS
EASTON—The Bloomsburg University women's cross country team finished fourth at the Lafayette College Leopard Invitational on Saturday.
The Huskies were led in the race by
Katie Meck (Dillsburg, Northern) with a ninth place finish in 22:28, while
Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) was 11th in 22:39 for the 6,000 meter course.
Bloomsburg bunched its three through five runners as
Samantha Matthews (Windsor, Glenelg),
Martina Drew (Langhorne, Neshaminy) and
Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH, Hudson) was 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively. Matthews finished in 23:15, while Drew was 23:20 and Werner 23:21. The Huskies time separating its first to fifth runner was just 53 seconds.
Rounding out the Huskies top seven were
Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield, Cardinal O'Hara) in 29th place in 23:40, while
Caitlin Heller (Bloomsburg, Indian Valley)was 49th in 24:26.
“Performances today were affected by considerable wind," said head coach
Bernie Empie. "The women showed a little more pop this weekend and racing two weekends in a row really proved positive for them. I am excited to see how the squad looks next weekend at Lock Haven. Each race we look a little sharper.”
Bloomsburg takes part in the Lock Haven River Run next Saturday at 11 a.m.
