LOCK HAVEN –
Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) placed third as the Bloomsburg University women's cross country team finished fourth at the Lock Haven River Run on Saturday morning.
Bloomsburg was one of five teams competing at the 6,000-meter course, along with host Lock Haven, Indiana (Pa.), Mansfield, and Bucknell. Indiana (Pa.) won the event, finishing with 53 points.
Filemyr posted another solid performance in 2010, placing third out of 80 runners in a time of 22:05.08.
Junior
Katie Meck (Dillsburg, Northern) also notched a top-10 finish, placing seventh in a time of 22:37.98.
Bloomsburg's
Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield, Cardinal O'Hara) carded a top-15 finish, crossing the finish line 13th at 22:52.48.
Samantha Matthews (Windsor, Glenelg) (Windsor, Glenelg) (23:28.40) and
Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH, Hudson) (Hudson, OH, Hudson) (23:31.70) rounded out the top-five for Bloomsburg, finishing 27th and 28th respectively.
Lock Haven's Lindsey Lambert took home first place for the Lady Eagles in a time of 21:26.74.
"I felt as though the team ran better than it has all season," said head coach
Bernie Empie. "All in all, the races were fairly close and it proved to be a good tune-up for the PSAC Championships."
Bloomsburg's next competition is in two weeks on Nov. 6 at the PSAC Championships, hosted by California (Pa.). The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.
