Walczuk, Stedman Lift Huskies Past Warriors, 2-1

EAST STROUDSBURG – Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) and Lauren Stedman (Garnet Valley, Garnet Valley) each scored a second-half goal, giving the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over the Warriors of East Stroudsburg on Saturday night.

With the win, the Huskies clinched the #4 seed in the PSAC playoff tournament, hosting #5 Slippery Rock on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Sports Stadium. Earlier this season, the Huskies knocked off The Rock, 2-1.

In the first half, the Huskies took eight shots with just two on goal. The Warriors took seven shots with just two on goal too.Neither team could put the ball into the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 halftime score.

For the first 11:27 of the second half, the Huskies came out firing, taking six shots and finally getting on the board.

At the 56:27 mark, Bloomsburg (12-3-3, 10-3-1 PSAC) put a shot past East Stroudsburg (8-9-1, 5-9-0 PSAC) goalkeeper Melissa Myers as Stedman took the feed from Tara Huber (Orefield, Parkland)and scored her second goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Just a little over 10 minutes later, at the 67:03 mark, Walczuk notched her team-leading 13th goal of the season to make it 2-0 BU. The goal gave her 30 points for the season (13 G, 4 A).

At the 83:02 mark, the Warriors cut the Bloomsburg lead in half at 2-1 when Lindsay Foder put the ball past BU goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield).

Bloomsburg held the 7-6 shots on goal advantage and a 7-3 corner kick advantage.

Nicoletti recorded her 12th victory of the season, stopping five East Stroudsburg shots. Myers made five saves and backup goalkeeper Sarah Ginn came in to relieve Myers later in the second half.
