Men's Soccer Plays to Tie with Cal

BOX SCORE

CALIFORNIA, PA—The Bloomsburg University men's soccer played to a 1-1,two overtime tie with California, Pa. on Wednesday in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) matchup.

The Vulcans took the early lead in the game when Ryan Grindle scored off a Spencer Crider assist on slow roller past a diving Bernie Roell (Douglassville, Daniel Boone), the Huskies goalie. Bloomsburg did hold a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the opening half, but could not convert.

In the second half the Huskies finally hit the back of the net when Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg, Gettysburg Area) headed one home off a long crossing pass from Michael Del Sordi (Scotch Plains, NJ, Scotch Plains-Fanwood) in the 75th minute knotting the score at 1-all.

After a scoreless first overtime in which the Vulcans outshot the Huskies, 4-0, Bloomsburg had a great chance to score when they awarded a penalty kick in the 103rd minute. However, Shaffer was denied by Cal goalie Derek Yobbi.

Cal came back four minutes later and missed wide on a shot that would have given them the win.

Bloomsburg goes to 3-5-2, 2-2-2 in the PSAC, while Cal falls to 7-2-2, 1-2-2 in the PSAC. The Huskies host Shippensburg Saturday at 5 p.m. in the team's annual Red Card Cancer game.
