Huskies Roll Over Cheyney 52-14 in Football

BOX SCORE

CHEYNEY—Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna, Pocono Mountain West) rushed for 122 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg University (5-1,3-0 PSAC East) to a 52-14 win over Cheyney University (1-5, 1-2 PSAC) Saturday afternoon. The win was the fifth straight for the Huskies after an opening season loss.

Quiteh, who went into the contest as Division's II leading rusher, got the Huskies off to a quick start when he scored on a two-yard run on the opening drive of the game. Quiteh, who was averaging over 183 yards a game, carried six times for 44 yards on the drive.

After Bloomsburg's Alex Landis (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) intercepted a Cheyney pass on the Wolves first series, the Huskies quickly scored again. On the first play of the drive quarterback Pat Carey (Loyalsock, Loyalsock Twp.) hit Tyler Guise (Mechanicsburg, Cumberland Valley) for a 30-yard completion to the Cheyney 23-yard line. Quiteh then went those final 23 yards to make it 14-0 with 6:12 left in the first period.

In the second quarter Carey threw two touchdown passes, one a 62-yard completion to Kyle Fisher (Denver, Cocalico) and the other a 20-yard scoring strike to Cory Stiger (Williamsport, Loyalsock Twp.). Bloomsburg closed out the scoring when Dan Fisher (Liverpool, Central Dauphin) hit a 36-yard field goal, his 10th of the season, for a 31-0 lead at the break. The 10 field goals for Fisher tied the school-single record set by Chris Mingrone in 1986.

Cheyney got the board on its first series of the second half when John Newman scored on a four-yard run to make it 31-7. Bloomsburg make it 38-7 on its first possession of the half when Codie Butler (Womelsdorf, Conrad Weiser)capped a 10-play, 51-yard drive with a four-yard run.

Later Bloomsburg'sMatt Wenrich (Selinsgrove, Selinsgrove) scored his first collegiate touchdown on a 15-yard run and defensive back Drew Siegfried (Glenside, Bishop McDevitt) returned a fumble 32 yards for his career score.

Cheyney added a 28-yard scoring pass from Chris Anderson to Dominic Crowell for the game's final score in the fourth to make the final 52-14.

Quiteh, who did not carry the play in the second half of the game, finished with 12 carries for 122 yards and went over 1,000 yards for the season, the 13th time a Bloomsburg runner has topped 1,000 yards in a season. Quiteh now has 1,040 yards rushing for the season. Carey finished 5-6 for 126 yards and two scores.

Bloomsburg will play at Shippensburg next Saturday at 1 p.m.
